The war committee on conven tions announced today that all restrictions on holding conven tions, group meetings and trade shows will be removed at that time on recommendation of the office of war mobilization and reconversion. J. Monroe Johnson, director of the office of defense transporta tion, warned, however, that this step was not an invitation to travel "nor can it be considered an assurance that transportation capacity will be available." Returned Veteran Poses Problem In " School Attendance i Succasunna, N. J., Sept. 12 ' (U.Ri A controversy raged today as to whether 24-year-old James i Hornberger, Jr., Pacific veteran, should resume his education with the 12 and 13-year-olds in the eighth grade at Roxbury Township grammar school. Hornbergcr's neighbors said he had no place in a class room with young children. They said the children would have no time for their books because they would find Hornberger and his war exploits too big a diversion. "The GI bill of rights is be- i hind me." Hornberger said. "I : am within my rights, and I need a grammar school diploma be I fore I can go to high school." PYORRHEA IS On several occasions I have talked about this before, and even if I seem to harp on it I must repeat now and again that, as it ap pears to me, careful study o f Nutrition and Physical u a generation. by Weston A. Price D. D. S published b y lloebcr of Har per & Bros. (now out of Dr. Brady print but per haps available at the public libr ary) and an article by W. Robert Foran on Tristan da Cunna in National Geographic Magazine, Nov. '38, is essential for a fair comprehension of the nature of pyorrhea or whatever name you prefer to apply to it. The unsophisticated layman and the small calibre doctor and dentist may imagine there is some dividing line between a healthy state of jaw bones, gums, tooth sockets and teeth and pyor rhea, and that a dentist who knows his business can decide by examination -whether you have or have not pyorrhea. Maybe a "specialist" of some sort could do that for you, Stu (short for stupid if I spell it out some stupid people resent it fur iously), but if my Jawbone (ah, ah, let us dispense with the ob vious), tooth sockets, gums and teeth were under the scrutiny of physician, dentist or specialist I wouldn't pay any attention. Af ter all it would make little dif ference what the physician or dentist might prefer to call the trouble if I had one or more of these symptoms, which Louis I. Grossman, D.D.S., D.M.D., de scribes as symptoms of pyorrhea alveolaris in The Cyclopedia of Medicine, Surgery and Special ties. Vol. X, '43: Diffuse hyperemia (conges tion) of gums with inflammation of gums between the teeth, fol lowed later by slight recession of gums. Gums bleed on slight provoca tion ("pink toothbrush" to you, Stu) Pockets form in gums and fin ly suppurate. Teeth begin to be come loose and may be painful during laterial or grinding move ment in chewing. Bad taste in the mouth, especially on rising. Offensive breath. Spaces between teeth become wider than formerly (the teeth undergoing atrophy.) Some dentists break it gently by saying the trouble is just "gingival irritation" or maybe they call it atrophic gingivitis. Whatever the dentist calls it one may as well face it every one must face it sooner or later it means one is beginning to now do try to get hold of yourself and understand this pains me just as much, probably more than it does you beginning to die. Listen, I mean merely hap pens to every individual as soon as he or she has attained full growth and development. It is the way of life. Let us acknowledge before we begin treatment that we can't cure pyorrhea. If you are inter ested only in a sure cure further discussion is useless you should go to some quack who canvasses suckers. The clippinc enclosed says the American Laryngological Association spokesman n Ati.intic City stated that the dis cussion of the throat specialists at the convention proved that drafts cause colds. IS. A. N.l Answer Oh. well, you shouldn't hold 'em responsible for what they say and do on an outing like that. If saying a thing proves It the case was thrown out of court long before we became daffy about drafts. (Copyright 1045 by John F. Dille Co.) SENDS MAPS OF T 5 Andrew Florcy recently sent his mother, Mrs. Ethel Flor cy. 433 North Front street, a set of maps showing progress of the 41st cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron from their departure from England to their arrival at Kirchdorf, Austria, where they were located when the European war ceased. The mops show position and strength of enemy forces, wea ther battle conditions, dates of movements and miscellaneous extracts "of happenings during the drive. Accompanying the maps is a sheet showing clippings taken frym various United States papers relating doings of the lllh Armored Division, of which the squadron is a unit. T 5 Florey, member of an armored crew car, was one of the first men to give news of the Russian position before United States forces contacted their allies. He was attached to a scouting patrol and was often 20 miles ahead of his unit, a part of Patton's Third Army.
