FOUR MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Society Grand Chapter Special Session To Be Held Soon Eastern Star member! of the valley will be interested in the news that a special session of the Oreeon Grand chapter win be held at the Masonic Temple in Portland Oct. 1 and 2, ac cording to information received bv Brand officers here, ine usual June meeting was postponed at the request of the Office ol De fense Transportation and grand officers who ordinarily would have been installed at that time will take office at the special session. Of outstanding Interest here is the fact that Mrs. Lorena Me Nnir. Alpha chapter, Ashland will be installed associate grand matron during the session. Mrs. Hazel Graham of Tillamook will be Installed grand matron and Sylvan West, Portland, grand patron. Social affairs being planned are a dance the evening of Sept, 29 in honor of Mrs. Graham and the grand officers' dinner Sun day. Sept. 30. In addition to Mrs. McNair, those who plan to attend from the valley will be Mrs. Beulah Faber, Ncvita chapter. Central Point, who is tha present Grand Adah for Oregon, and Mrs. Hope Wood, Reames chapter, Medford, who is grand representative for South Carolina. It is also expected that the worthy matrons and patrons of nil four valley chapters will at tend and that the entire group from the four chapters will num ber 20 or 23 persons. Valley Woman Attend Luncheon of Nil Club Four Medford and Ashland women motored to Klamath Falls Wednesday, where they were guesta at a luncheon meet ing of the Nile club there. Fairfield, Jr., son of Major and Mrs. William A. Fairfield, Sr., of San Francisco. No date has been set for the wedding. Miss Webb, a graduate of Med ford high school, has completed two years of study at the Uni versity of Oregon and will leave Tuesday, Sept. 11, for Mills Col lege in California for her Junior year. Captain Fairfield Bttended the University of New Mexico for two years before entering the army air corps and Is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He re cently returned to this country after eight months of duty in England and is currently station ed at Biggs Field, El Paso, Tex The officer Is a pilot for a B-29 bomber plane. Medford Couple To be Married At Local Church Set for today is the wedding of Miss Fannie Sullivan to Dick Foster the nuptials to take place this alternoon at the Church of the Nazarene Miss Sullivan Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E Sullivan, 107 Clark street, and Mr. Foster's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Carl. Foster, 113 Clark street. The betrothal of the couple was announced at a party given by a group of friends recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hoy House 215 North Ivy street. Dur ing tne evening Mr. and Mrs, John Eby entertained with ap- ornnnate musical selections. Mrs. McCullough Hostess Thursday At Bridge Party Entertaining at the Officers' Outpost, Mrs. Thomas McCul lough. 135 North Ivy street, was hostess Thursday afternoon for a luncheon and bridge party Sixteen guests were present. At bridfH prizes went to Mrs. Gus Newbury for first honors, Mrs Grace Collins, second, Mrs. C. I Drummond, third, and Mrs. Leonard Appleton also won a prize. The luncheon tamee were ai- ractlvely decorated with fall blossoms. Groups of Valley Resume Sessions; Chapter to Meet With the Labor Day holiday over and September well ad vanced, women's clubs, lodges and other valley groups are mak ing plans for taking up fall ac tivities after the annual summer vacation. With war-time activi ties drawing to a close, it is ex pected that many clubs whose ordinary programs have given way to those more closely klenti fled with the national war ef fort will this fall return to peace- time programs and activities. One of the larger groups of th. city which will have the first fall session this week Is Reames Chapter, O E.S., which meets Thursday at 8 p. m, at the Ma sonic hull in regular session. Initiation will be held and re freshments served, the commit tee announces. Teachera Return South Aftar Vacation Hera Miss Vivian Johnston, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Art John ston ot 121 Crater Lake avenue, has returned to Antloch, Calif., where she is on the staff of the Antioi h schools. She was accom panied south by Miss Lucile Ab bot, teacher at Gillrny, Calif.. who spent the summer vacation in Klamath Falls with relatives. The service took place in Reno, Ncv. Mr. and Mr. Skyrmdn have returned to the valley and are residing in Central Point. Both Mr. and Mrs. Skyrman are native Jackson county resi dents and both are widely known in the valley. Mr. Skyrman re cently returned home after an honorable discharge from the army. Regional Leader For Girl Scouts To Visit Council Miss Dorothy Calnln from the regional Girl Scout office In Se attle, Wash., will be in Medford from Sept. 10 to 14 for a series of conferences and training meetings with the various coun cil members, committees and Girl Scout leaders, according to an announcement from the local Girl Scout headquarters. Mrs. Scott Davis, commissioner, urges a full attendance of all commit tee members as this will be the only training for the local coun cil given by a national staff member this year. Monday morning Miss Calnin will hold an office conference and at 1:30 p. m. she will at tend the regular council meet ing which will feet 'ire a report of established camp. Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock there will be a program committee meet ing, with Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, chairman, as leader. At 2 p. m. Tuesday Miss Calnln will meet with the public relations com mittee, of which Mrs. L. A. Mc Cormlck is chairman. Miss Calnln meets Wednesday at 10 a. m. with the organiza tion committee, headed by Mrs. M. N. Hogan, and Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock a spec ial Leaders' association meeting has been scheduled for all lead ers, assistant and troop com mittee members. Mrs. Rollin Jones, president of the associa tion, will preside. The training committee, head ed by Mrs. C. A. Meeker, meets with Miss Calnln Thursday at 10 a. m., and that afternoon at 1:30 p. m. the camp committee will meet with the visitor. Mrs. E. A. Faber is established camp chair man and Mrs. Donald Zeis is day camp chairman. Birthday Party Given for Child Rodney Eugene Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Miller, cele brated his first birthday anniver sary with a party at the Miller home here Sept. 3. Mri, Spiker'i daughter, Carolyn Leah. armsen-Cooper Rites Are Held At Local Chapel Ashland At an afternoon ceremony Tuesday, Sept. 4 in the Chapel of the Rocks and Roses in Medford Mrs. Mildred Harmsen, daughter of Mrs. Mabel Barber of Ashland be came the bride of Dr. Miller E. Cooper of Klamath Falls. The Rev. D. E. Millard read the double-ring service before about 40 friends and relatives from Ashland, Medford, Klamath Falls and Junction City. Preceding the ceremony the Rev. and Mrs. Millard sang For the service the bride wore a light blue dress with black accessories and a corsage of rosebuds and orange blossoms. Her matron-of-honor, Mrs. John Mallctte of Junction City wore a dark costume with a carnation corsage and the bride's mother was gowned in green with black accessories and a carnation cor sage. Walter Kennctt of Klamath Falls was best man and ushers were Miss Cozette Harmsen and Miss Shirlee Newbry, both of Ashland. The chapel was decorated with baskets of colorful asters and dahlias. At the reception following the wedding the bride and groom first cut the wedding cake and serving was continued by Miss Yvonne Parker and Mrs. Sum ner Parker of Ashland. After a short wedding trip to Crescent City, Dr. and Mrs. Cooper will be at home at 19P2 Melrose avenue In Klamath Falls. Troop Will Hold Dinner Meeting Mrs William Grcnbemer will entertain members of the Ladies' Mounted Troop at her home, 23 Rose avenue. Tuesday evening for dinner. The affair has been set for 7 p. m. and will be fol lowed by a troop meeting at which the 1915 rodeo season will be reviewed. Mrs. Clyde Leonard, program chairman, introduced Mrs. Mabel Randolph, vocalist, and her ac companist, Mrs. Elsie Strang, who entertained with musical numbers. New officers of the club were hostesses for the meeting, includ ing Mrs. N. D. Rowe, president; Mrs. O. A. Selby, vice-president; Mrs. George Goodman, secre tary, and Mrs. T. K. Flynn, treas urer. Following the business meet ing cards were played in the ladies lounge of the hotel. Twenty-three members were present. Leisure Day Club Elects Officers Mrs. F. E. Richey was named president of the Leisure Day club at the last meeting of the group held Wednesday at the home of Mrs. O. C. Richey, 1708 Main street, following a dessert luncheon. She succeeds Mrs. Ralph Waldion. Mrs. John Gee succeeds Mrs. O. C. Richey as secretary and treasurer. Plans were made for a club Hallowe'en party. Mrs. Lyman is to leave soon for Bakersfield, Calif., to make her home with a daughter. The parlors were decorated with flowers from the Cameron gardens in Jacksonville, the Camerons being longtime friends of Mrs. Lyman. A musical pro gram was given and Mrs. Mary Jones presented Mrs. Lyman with a beautiful leather purse, a gift from the assembled friends, reading an original poem. Re freshments were served by Mrs. Emil Kunz and Mrs. W. H. Hill, hostesses, assisted by Mrs. Rose Berry. Mrs. Lyman has resided in the county for 30 years, her husband having operated a grocery busi ness in Jacksonville for many yers prior to his death. She has sold her home at 45 Ross Court and will reside with a daughter at 412 Oregon street. Bakers field. Mrs. Lyman has many friends who will miss her greatly. Evelyn Geiger, Sergeant Myers Wed in Yreka Miss Joyce Evelyn Geiger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Geiger, West Jackson boulevard, and Sgt. Richard Charles Myers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Myers, 1126 West Ninth, street, were married in Yreka, Calif., August 27. Sgt. and Mrs. Myers left Wednesday for Long Beach, Calif., where they will reside for the present. The bride is a graduate of Central Point high school with the class of 1943 and was em ployed at Woolworths before her marriage. Sgt. Myers, a graduate of Talent high school with the class of 1930, recently returned from England where he served with the Eighth army air force for 19 months. He is now as signed to the air base at Long Beach. Mill Day In Valley To Visit With Parent! Miss Nancy Day, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl B. Day, has arrived in the valley to spend two weeks with her parents at the Blue Moon Ranch near Med ford. She has been on the staff of the Vancouver, Wash., recrea tion association for the summer, teaching dramatics and directing civic theater activities. Other guests at the Blue Moon ranch are Mrs. Clifford Farmer of Salem and Lt. Keith Thomp son, Los Angeles, who recently returned to this country after overseas service.
