The players all hold big league contracts and ere on leave of absence from their respective clubs whilo in the army. The all-star team to oppose the Warriors will probably be made up of Bogarski, Slimak, Branham, West and Busch of the Marines, and Brown, Biddle, Patterson, Worthley and Gaston of the Navy plus several mem bers of the Craters. The team wil be managed by Paul Freer, Crater boss. Freer announced today there will be no practice for the Cra ters tonight. TO Anyone who purchased reserv- : cd seats for Medford high's foot ball season in 1044 and wishes to have the same seats reserved for the coming season, should notify the high school office be fore September 1, it was an nounced today by Lester Harris, principal. Harris said that no former re served seats would be held af ter that date. Reserved seat tickets will be ready by Septem ber 10 and may be obtained by calling at the office on or after that date. :t. WITH COLLEGIANS Chicago, Aug. 29 (U.R) Don Hutson, the spindle-legged Ar kansas farm boy who became football's greatest end, bids fare well to the game that made him famous tomorrow night when the Green Bay Packers meet the College All-Stars in the 12th annual all-star grid classic. Some 90,000 fans are expected to jam Soldier Field to view the colorful spectacle and to watch Hutson, still fleet and elusive at 32, play his final game. The skinny speedster with the over-sized hands and breakaway stride has announced his retire ment annually since 1942, but this time he means it. After 10 pro football campaigns with the Packers, he knows that his slen der legs can't stand many more knocks and he wants to quit be fore it is too late. Leading the All-Star attack will be Capt. Charley Trippl, an army sergeant and the star of Georgia's 1943 Rose Bowl vic tory, and Tom Harmon, Mich! Kan's all-Amcrican of five years ago. Oakmont, Pa., Aug. 29 (U.B Byron Nelson and Sammy Snead were out to break par to day over the super-tough 7,100 yard Oakmont golf course a feat that no golfer has been able to accomplish in 72-hole tourna ment play in the club's 42-year history. Both were at even par of 144 at the half-way mark of the two day $10,000 war bond "blue rib bon" tournament. The other two entrants, Harold McSpaden and Gene Sarazen fell by the way side. Nelson and Snead put on a brilliant duel yesterday, play ing the second 18 holes in sub par after finishing the morning round above regulation figures. Nelson put on the pressure in the last nine holes to pull up even with Snead, erasing a four stroke lead. Nelson's last nine shooting gave him a two-under par 70 to add to his morning round of 74. Snead took a 73 in the morn ing and a 71 in the afternoon. McSpaden had a 36-hole total of 155 while Sarazen's was 158. Both Snead and Nelson won preliminary prizes of $1,000 bonds for 18-hoIe low scores. Snead's 73 was tops for the morning round and Nelson's 70 was the best of the day. Aug. 30 u.R Eastern kids kept their baseball record clean in the All-American boys game today mainly be cause Pitcher Curtis Simmons delivered with the bat after fail ing on the mound. The East beat the West, 5 to 4, with a three -run last ditch rally in the ninth inning spark ed by Simmons' triple, the long est hit of the night before 15,000 fans at the polo grounds. Simmons, a powerful youth from Egypt, Pa., pitched the first three innings and although he struck out five batters left the mound with the score 4 to 2 against him. The West got all of its runs in the third. GRID PRACTICE First football practice of the 1945 season for the Medford high school Black Tornado, de fending state champions, has been called for the high school field Monday at 7 p.m.. Coach Al Simpson said today. Equip ment will be issued at that time and it is particularly requested that all grid aspirants be pres ent, the coach stated. Practice will be held every night except Saturdays and Sundays for the next two weeks to permit players to aid in the pear harvest during the daytime.
