ODUCER, KILLED BY STREET One Time Multi-Millionaire Had Eight Cents In Dingy Clothes Hollywood, Aug. 25 (U.R) Oliver Morosco, 85, once famous and wealthy theatrical producer who discovered many stage and screen stars, was killed today when he was hit by a street car here as he was crossing the street. He remained unidentified for several hours as he had only eight cents on him. The picturesque producer ap peared to have tried to get out of the way of the approaching street car at an intersection here, but noticed it too late to avoid being hti, witnesses said. The former impresario met death in dingy, pathetic clothes. When he failed to return home, his wife, telephoned police and was told a man answering Moros co's description was killed but he carried no identification. She later collapsed after going to the Pierce Bros, mortuary to iden tify the body. In 1899. Morosco arrived in Los An;''es with S40 In his pocket, took over the old Bur bank, now a burlesque house, and started a career that marie him an outstanding producer un til the depression year of 1929. He is credited with discover ing such stars as Richard Dix, j Harlan Tucker. Marjorie Ram- beau, Douglas MacLean. Lenore Ulric, Charles Ruggles, Charlotte Greenwood and others. Morosco made his fortune by an uncanny ability to spot a i money-making play. He was; said to have made $5,000,00 from "Peg O' My Heart." ! For many years he was rated as one of the topnotch theatrical 1 producers in New York and Los Angeles. 1 Showmen attributed his de-j cline to the frosty reception ! given his "miracle musicals." j which were given a religious i touch. The second Mrs. Moros co, formerly Actress Helen Mc- Clurc, guided him into this "up-1 lift drama." j His second wife divorced him in 1935, and his name appeared on police blotters several times on drunk charges. For a time he made a living on a federal music project for the WPA. Closing time for Classified Arts 8:30 a nv Too Late to Classify 12:15 p m "Bring On The Girls" sJwv. Wv?S&p. sty'?: Sonny Tufts.
