The church was decorated with asters, larkspur and candelabra, and sprays of Esther Reld white daisies were tied with white ribbon at the ends of the pews. Bridesmaids were Miss Mil dred McKcnzie. who wore a blite dress. Miss LaRene Thompson In peach colored gown, Miss Kinn Andrews in aqun. and Miss Jo-, Ann Humphrey In pink. The bride's mother wore a grav dress with purple acces sories, ' and Mrs. Rogers, Sr., chose a gray flowered print gown with blnck accessories. Each had an orchid corsnge. A dinner for the wedding party, immediate relatives of the couple, and parents of the bridesmaids, was held after the ceremony in a lawn setting at Rupp's In Central Point. The wedding cake, placed on a table decorated with white Esther Held flowers, was cut first by the bride and groom, who used a knife loaned for the occasion by Mrs. Clara Young Agee. The knife was Riven to Mis. Agcc's parents on their silver wedding anniversary, and has been used by several Medford couples at wedding affairs. Edmonds, aunt continued the cutting. Mrs. P. L. Andrews poured coffee, and Mrs. Emory Culbertson, sister of the groom, aerved punch. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers left that evening on a trip to the west coast benches, and will be at home after this week at the Elter Miller apartments on South Riverside avenue. As a golng away costume. Mr. Rogers, who was employed with United Airlines at San Francisco before entering the army air corps In October, 1942. was placed on the Innctlve list with the army this spring and has returned to the United Air lines office at the Medford air port. A graduate of Medford high school with the class of 1U41, he served overseas In Eng land as a pilot and first lieut enant. Sweeney of Dayton, Ore., and Carleton George Fanger, radio technician third class, U. S. navy, took place Sunday evening, Aug. 12, at the Christian church In Dayton. The bride's mother wore a yel low floral crepe dress with white accessories, and the groom's mother a blue crepe gown with black accessories. Each had a gardenia and pink rose bud cor sage. At a reception held at the home of the bride's parents, Mrs. W. S. U'Ren cut the cake, and Mrs. Hardwlck, Corvallls, and Mrs. Aduah Sweeney, Portland, poured for about 150 guests. Mrs. Fanger Is a senior student at Oregon Statu college where the groom also nltundcd school before entering the navy. After a short trip, the couple will go to Treasure Island where Mr. Fanner will be reassigned. Among out of town relatives attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Mrs. Maulding. mother of the bride, wore a sheer navy blue dress. Dr. and Mrs. Sherwood spent a rew days at uiamona iane, mm returned to Medford before leav ing for Portland to make their home. The doctor was with the Osteopathic Clinic here until six months ago when he 'eft to do- come associated with the clinic In Portland. Mrs. Sherwood was honorably discharged June 18 from the WAC, after serving 18 months with an air force unit. Lady JayCees H ost To Junior Chamber At Party Saturday Members of the Lady JavCees entertained the Junior Chamber of Commerce at a party last Sat urday niht, honoring the Junior Chamber Softball team. The af fair was a buffet supper served at 8:30 p. m. In the basement oi the Medford hotel. A "consolation trophy" was awarded by Mrs. Alan Jewctt to Ed Nlles, pitcher, who accepted It for the team. Mrs. Paul elby, social choir- man, was In charge of arrai.ge- ments, and the program followed a general "Gay Nineties" theme. Leisure Group Presents Gift Mrs. Ben Music was presented birthday gift by members of the Leisure Day club who met for a dessert luncheon Wednes day, Aug. 15, at the home of Mrs. John Gee, 19 Lincoln' street. Mrs. Curtis Tessman was a guest at the meeting, and the group spent the afternoon sewing. Next meeting of the group win be held at the home of Mrs. O. C. Richey, 1708 West Main street, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, for a 2 o'clock dessert luncheon. Sojourners Meet For Dessert Bridge Medford Sojourners met ot the Girls' Community club Thursday for a one o'clock des sert. followed by an afternoon of cards. Bridge prizes were won by Sirs. Leo Hazel and Mrs. D. McCullough, and pinochle prizes went to Mrs. J. W. Barnard and Mrs. H. Stahl. Mrs. C. Talbot and Mrs. William Herron also receiv ed prizes. Rogers, Sr. Harold Stevens, Detroit Bride Marry in East News of the marriage of Miss June Boiling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Boiling of De troit, Mich., and Lt. (jg.) Harold H. Stevens, grandson of Mrs Mary L. Page of 415 Laurel street, was received in Medford thi.s week. The ceremony took place July 19 at the Lutheran church in Detroit. A graduate of Medford hlfth school, Lt. Stevens attended nor mal school in Ashland for two years before entering the navy air corps. He made his home here with his grandmother. Now stationed as a pilot at Wildwood. N. J., Lt. Stevens expects to re ceive an honorable discharge from the service soon, and will bring his bride to Medford. California Couple Marry in Medford At Home Ceremony Miss Marvel Jean Edwards and Edward Eugene Furnas, ma chinist's mate second class, both of Inglewood, Calif., were mar ried at a 4 o'clock ceremony Thursday afternoon at the home of the groom's' uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Furnas, 41 Ros'e avenue. Rev. Wolford A. Dawes officiated. Mr. Furnas was recently as signed to the new destroyer ten der, U. S. S. Shenandoah, which was commissioned Aug. 15 at Ta coma. Wash. He wears the Pa cific defense ribbon, Chinese the ater ribbon with bronze star, and the Philippine theater ribbon with bronze star, having parti cipated in both the Palan and Leyte invasions. After the ceremony, the cou ple left for a brief trip to Cra ter lake before the groom re ports back to his ship the first of next week. Miss Mary Powell And William Kerr Marry in Oakland ' Of Interest to local friends Is the recent marriage of M.ss Mary M. Powell, WAVE phar macist's mate third class, and William T. Kerr, pharmacist's mate third class, which took place at the First Methodist church in Oakland, Calif. The Rev. E. L. Zartman read the double ring service before a candle-lit altar. Attendants were Raymond Robbins, storekeeper second class, and Mrs. Robbins of Port land. The couple wore navy uniforms, and the bride had a corsage of gardenias and pink rose buds. Mrs. Robbins wore a pale blue suit with fuschia ac cessories. Mr. Kerr was a pharmacist be fore entering the navy, and is the eon of Mrs. Ethel Kerr of Holliston, Mass. Mrs. Kerr, ' youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Powell of Ashland, is a graduate of Ashland high school and Medford School of Beauty. At the time of her en listment in the WAVEs in Feb ruary, 1944, she owned and oper ated a beauty shop in Portland. She has received training at Hunter's college. New York, the navy hospital corps school at Bethsada, Md., and Oakland navy hospital. Mr. Kerr is stationed at pre sent on Treasure Island, await ing shipment overseas, and Mrs. Kerr is continuing her work at the Oakland hospital. Couple Married In Church Rites At Rogue River Rogue River A garden set ting arranged in the Presbyterian church here was the scene of the wedding last week of Miss Jaync Murray and Jesse Miller, store keeper second class, U. S. navy. The Rev. Elvin Hess officiated at the double ring ceremony, and the couple stood beneath an ivy covered arch. A small white picket fence and arrangements of summer flowers completed the church decorations. The bride was attended by hci- sister, Mrs. Maxine Groves, and best man for the groom was his brother, Sgt. Charles Miller Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Murray, and Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Killer. Both families reside on the north bank, Evans creek road. Couples Marry At Local Chapel The Chapel of the Rocks and Roses on South Oakdale avenue was the scene of a number of weddings for out-of-town couples this week, at which the Rev. D. E. Millard performed the cere monies. Services were held for Rachel V. Daniels and Walter Lee Loft- in, both of Grants Pass; Dorothy Marion Albertson and Roy Mil ton Dunn, both Klamath Falls; Loretta Gretchen Bradley of Grants Pass and Matthew Mann David of Sacramento, Calif., and Verlene Keith Johnson of Ore gon City and Joseph Marion Smith, U. S. navy. All the couples were accompanied by friends and relatives. Mrs. Sparks was graduated from Eagle Point high school in 1942, and has been employed at the Southern Oregon Credit Bu reau for the past year. Mr. j Sparks has Just returned to the eity with an honorable discharge from the army, received at Fort Lewis, Wash., after serving 41' months in the South Pacific with the 41st Infantry Division. Leav ing Medford with the National Guard unit, he was last rated as a technical sergeant. j Shower Honors Mrs. R.
