FIRST ARMY MAY 'TAKE PART HONG 'Chungking, Aug. 24 (U.R) The future status of the flritish crown colony of Hongkong to day dominated discussions in of ficial and unofficial Chinese government circles. It kas believed that the Initial reoccupation of Hong kong would be carried out by Chinese forces under Gen. Chaiig Fan Kwei and the American trained new first army. While British military and diplomatic authorities in Chung king maintained complete sil ience, it was also thought that British naval units which had been reported en route to Hong kong a few days ago might have turned to reoccupy other areas. If these units land at Hongkong, Chinese officials felt they would merely assist Gen. Chang's forces. This was seemingly a contra diction to a statement Prune Minister Clement Attlee made in the House of Commons yes terday that a British command er would accept the surrender of Hongkong. The post-surrender fate of the island was even less clear. Livestock Portland. R. Ritchie, 185 North Pio neer street, Ashland, driving a truck and trailer loaded with cattle, went in the ditch near Talent Junction and Highway 99 about 7 p. m. yesterday to avoid hitting a car stopped on the highway, according to a report by state police. Flo Lewis, Holland hotel, Med ford, who was accompanied by her husband, was "driving south on Highway 99 and put her hand out to make a left turn, the re port stated. Ritchie said he blew his air horn and Mrs. Lewis made an abrupt stop. As he drove into the ditch to avoid striking the Lewis car, his trailer hit a telephone pole and turned over, blocking the highway. One cow was killed and several were roaming loose in the Talent district this morning, police were told. Wall Street , New York, Aug. 24 (U.R) Stocks made new highs for more than a month today under the stimulus of the War Production board's removal of all produc tion controls over the automo bile industry. Automobile shares rose as much as 3 points in Chrysler which made a new high for the year. Low-priced issues were active and strong. Tire issues spurted under the leadership of Goodrich which gained 3 points. Automotive equipment shares I joined the motors in their rise. !
