Rease Braley, 245 Valley View drive, returned today from a two week's visit in San Fran From Buying Trip Adrienne Steward has Just returned to Medford from a three weeks buying trip in the Los Angeles and San Francisco markets, where she purchased mercharv dise for Adrienne's ladies ready to wear store. Permits to Build E. C. Lester, 812 Beekman avenue, applied for permit yesterday at the office of - the city superintendent to re- model a residence at a cost of $500 LeRoy Williams, 1126 West Tenth street, made application to re-shingle a residence at a cost of $40. and W. J. Applegate, 516 Palm street, applied for permit to add to a residence at a cost of $60. White Brothers Here Ca rool N. White, S I'c, GM, ar rived by plane Friday evening on a five day navy leave, and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shannon O. White, 20 Ross court. Also here are two other sons of the Whites', Arvid N. White, re cently discharged from the army, and Pvt. Lyle White from the Marana army air field. This is the first time in four years the three brothers have been in Med. ford together. Graham Returns Sgt. Harvey Graham has arrived in Medford at the home of his parenfs, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Graham, Route 1. ' box 547 with an honorable dis charge from the army received at Ft. Lewis, Wash. Graham left the city with the national guard unit, and served overseas 40 months with the 41st Infantry Division. His brother, TSgt. Russel Graham, is visiting here, on furlough from McClellan army air field, Sacramento, Calif. To Lake Mr. and Mrs. Don Newbury and son, Kenneth, of 7 Eastwood drive, and Charles Ashpole plan to spend the next week at Lake O' the Woods, and will be joined there by her brother, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Del rell, daughter, Caryl, and son. Croxton, former Medford resi dents, now of Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. Rollin P. Rodolph. of Pan Francisco, also former Med-; ford residents. The Newbury s daughter, Nancy Jean, will also ; join the family from the uin Scout camp at the Lake. The Delzell family are expected to visit in the city soon. Eden on Leav Capt. Douglas S. Eden arrived in Medford Fri day on a 30 day leave, after serv ing a year in England as bom bardier with the 8th air force, end Is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Eden, 211 Genes tee street. A graduate of Med ford high school in 1941, Capt. Eden attended the University of Oregon where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and entered the air corps in 1943. He holds the distinguished flying cross, air medal with four oak leaf clusters, ETO ribbon with four battle stars, and presiden tial unit citation. On expiration of his leave. Capt. Eden will re port to Santa Ana, Calif., for a rest period and reassignment. Stolen Mildred White, 912 South Central avenue, reported to police yesterday the theft of her bicycle, license No. 1134, from a local cannerv. Zahnow, stationed on Luton island in the Philippines with an anti-tank company, has been pro moted from private first class to corporal, according to word re ceived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Zahnow, Route 4, box 179-A. He was also recently awarded the combat badge and expert badge. White Promoted Jack E. White, who left Medford last week after spending a 15 day furloueh with hi children at the family home, 531 raun sireei, nas oeen promoted from corporal to sergeant at his station at Camp Roberts, Calif., according to word received by his wife. Riverside Art. 1 In Europe T.'S Ray Knips of Medford is serving with the U.S. army of occupation in the Euro pean theater, according to an ar ticle printed in "The Yankee Bomber," news bulletin of his unit, for Aug. 2. Daughter Born Word was re ceived Saturday of the birth Au gust 16 of a daughter to Sgt. and Mrs. Wallace Eri, in Tucson. Ariz. Mrs. Eri is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Evans, 32 Ross Court. Sgt. Eri has been stationed at Tucson for some time as an army athletic instruc tor. Major Marts Hera Major Vera B. Marts, regional relief director of Salvation Army USO, arrived in the city recently to take over supervision of the lo cal USO while Miss Bernice O'Denney, regular director, is on a three week's vacation. Major Marts, who spent three months in Medford last winter, is visit ing many old friends while here. Presents Gift Clifford Mc Gulston. owner of the sporting goods store and building hous ing the Riverside Market which was damaged by fire last Sunday morning, presented a gift of $45 to city firemen this week, in appreciation of their work in connection with the fire. McGuis ton reports that no damage was caused by water used to extin guish the fire, and cutting of roof and walls to reach the flames was held to a minimum, thereby reducing property damage. Fire Chief Roy Elliott states that the gift was turned over to the sta tion's general fund. I Swam Returns Jack Swem, owner of Swem's Gift Shop in Medford, returned to the city Saturday morning from Los An geles, where he spent the past two weeks purchasing merchan dise for the store. The Swem home is at 38 Ross court. Campbell Hare Pvt. Robert G. Campbell arrived home Mon day following his return to the U, S. from Germany where he has spent the past six months with the 20th armored division, and is visiting his parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Campbell, Route 1. He will report to Ft. Lewis, Wash., on expiration of a 30 day furlough. Address Incorrect The ad dress of Mrs. James Devon, wife of Sgt Devon who was awarded the bronze star recently for serv ice in Italy with the Fifth army, was incorrectly given in a dis patch from the sergeant's head quarters. Mrs. Devon, the for mer Ruth Leclerc, makes her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Leclerc, 615 West Second street, rather than at 40 S. Central avenue. Durno Home Major Edwin R. Durno arrived home Tuesday on a 30 day leave from the army medical corps and is with hU wife and family at their home, 1913 Hillcrest road, after two years in the European theater. Major Durno flew to the U. S. from Paris and will report to Ft. Lewis. Wash., at the end of his leave. Before entering the serv ice in October. 1942, he prac ticed medicine in Medford for 15 years. Rlea Discharged Sgt. Ernest R. Rice, veteran of Guadalcanal, Vella Lea Vella. Northern Solo mons, and Luzon, has been given an honorable discharge from the army. Rice entered the service Jan. 17, 1942, and went overseas in April, 1942. He holds the good conduct medal, distinguished unit badge, Asiatic-Pacific serv ice medal with three bronze stars, and Philippine liberation medal with one bronze star. Son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Rice, 910 West 11th street, he was with the 25th medical Infantry division as company clerk. Another son of the Rice', Charles F. Rice, Is expected to 'arrive In Medford Wednesday from Fort Lewis, Wash., where he is receiving an honorable discharge. Entering the army In 1941, he has been overseas 2Vj years, and has seen active service in New Guinea, Leytes and northern Luzon, and wears three bronze campaign stars on the Asiatic-Pacific rib bon, good conduct medal, combat infantryman badge, and Phili-! ppine liberation medal with one bronze star, and purple heart. !
