S. senator in Washington, D. C. In order to obtain trucks, farmers must first get certifi cates of need from the county agent's office, and the vehicles can then be purchased through regular dealers. County Agent Robert Fowler said today that as soon as offi cial written notice of the re lease is received and proper forms arrive, certificates will be issued at his office to farmers needing trucks. Mighty Fleet In Victory Photo On Coast of Japan With the Third Fleet off Ja pan, Aug. 16 (U.R) All units of Adm. William F. Halsey's mighty 3rd fleet united into a single giant task force in battle array today and steamed west toward Tokyo to have us pic ture taken. It was the first time in the war that all of the great carriers, battleships, cruisers and destroy ers had been concentrated with in visual range. It was a maneu ver which had been on the schedule for a long time to be out into effect after victory. The units moved along in tight formation under a brilliant gun as photographic planes soar ed overhead after Halsey flashed the code word authorized long ago: "Execute operation snapshot!" Stilwell Refuses To Accept Chinese Award of Medals Manila, Aug. 16 (U.R) Gen. Joseph W. Stillwell, who was recalled from his army com mand in China after a dispute with Generalissimo Chiang Kai- Shek, today declined China's award of blue sky and white sun medals. "I have not accepted any for eign decorations whatsoever," he said when informed of the awards. Stilwell now commands the 10th army. EUROPE TO PACIFIC MOVEMENTS HALTED Paris, Aug. 16 (U.R) Ameri can army authorities cancelled all troop movements from the European theater to the Pacific and announced today radical re visions In the redeployment pro gram. More than 60,000 veterans will start for the United States as soon as possible, with five divisions leaving within the next 30 days. CANADIAN CENSORSHIP REGULATIONS REMOVED Ottawa, Aug. 16 (U.R) All war-time censorship regulations were cancelled in Canada today- In a last "directive," the cen sors expressed their "sincere gratitude" to the publishers and staffs of news associations, news papers, periodicals and radio broadcasting stations "for the help and cooperation which has made the work of this branch of censorship possible." TWA ANNOUNCES CUT IN AIR TRAVEL FARE Kansas City, Mo., Aug. 16 U.R) Transcontinental and West ern Air, Inc., today announced a seven and one-half per cent re duction on its passenger fares. The new reduced rate' will go into effect Aug. 20, E. O. Cocke, traffic vice president, said- Chungking, Aug. 16 U.R) China's Number One Quisling, Chen Kung Po, president of the Nanking puppet government, has pledged 1,360,000 troops under his command to help re-i turn the former national capital and the cities of Shanghai and Hangchow to the Chungking government, it was reliably re-i ported today. j Cheng said the troops were awaiting Chungking's "instruc-; tions for reorganization." j "Can I redeem myself from my sin?" Cheng asked. j Cheng also was reported to have executed the puppet mayor j of Shanghai, Chow Fu Hal, al leging Chow "objected to the re turn to central government authorities." i LIQUOR INCREASE ; NOT ON HORIZON: Portland, Ore., Aug. 16 (U.R) The end of the war will mean no increase in liquor rations or even the lifting of liquor ration ing, at least for the present, Ray Conway, administrator of the Oregon Liquor Control commis sion, said today He also disclosed that at the conclusion of a three-day month ly meeting of the commission, a recent rule preventing serving of beer in 32-ounce bottle except for off-premise consumption was lifted- The 32-ounce bottles may be used until Dec. 1, he said. Air Conditioning Found For Apples Ithaca, N. Y. (U.R) By apply ing the priciple of the gas mask to protecting apples in storage, apple growers of the country may save many thousands of dol lars annually. Research at the Cornell Uni versity Agricultural experiment station has developed a method of air conditioning, similar to that used in a soldier's gas mask, to control the gases given off by the apples themselves. The conditioning prevents storage ap ples from developing a "scald' disease, which causes the fruit to become unsightly and to lose market value.
