FOUH MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Society and Clubs Beverly Pearson Planning Wedding In Early Autumn Miss Beverly Pearson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pearson. 118 Clark street, is telling friends of' her approaching mar riage to Staff Sgt. Scrlpter and Mrs, Irene Shirley, assisted by Miss Anne Scrlpter, entertained at a bridal shower honoring Miss Pearson the evening of Aug. 2, at the Scrlpter home, 60 Rose avenue. Following refreshments, the group played pinochle. Present were the Mesdames Edith Beck, Barbara Ross, Nora Glascock, Mel Lang, Doris Hus ron, Jessie Laing, and Marjorie Pearson, and Miss Diane Beck c and Miss Lucille Pearson. Ousterhout Married Sunday The wedding of Miss Miry Belle Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Walker of Port land, and Pfc. William K. Ous terhout, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Ousterhout of route 3, Med ford, was an event of Sunday, July 29, at Sunnyslde Methodist church in Portland. Dr. Edward Wolfe read the service before a group of 200 friends and rela tives of the couple. The bride wore an ivory satin gown with clunle lace Inserts, and fingertip veil held in place by a Juliet cap. She carried white roses and bavardla. Maid of hon or waj Miss Nancy Walker, who was dressed in blue taffeta, and the bridesmaids, Miss Stella Spears of Seattle and Miss Max ine Broehl of Portland wore pink dresses of similar design. All three carried old fashioned nose gays of delphinium. Bonnie Lue McKean, Portland, was flower girl. John Ousterhout, M e d f o r d, was best man, and ushers were Gerald Ousterhout, apprentice seaman, Clifford Fanger, Port land, and John Cram, chief pharmacist's mate, Astoria. A reception was held after the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents. Pfc. and Mrs. Ousterhout are now at his par ent's home near Medford, and on expiration of the army man's 30 day furlough they will leave for Camp Campbell, Ky. Pfc, Ousterhout returned recently to this country after 9 months duty in Germany. He is a graduate of Medford high school, and his bride was graduated from Wash ington high school in Portland. Past Presidents Plan Picnic For Husbands Plans for a picnic for mem bers of the Past Presidents club of Degree of Honor lodge and their husbands, to be held in the Ashland park Sunday, Aug. 28, were made at the regular month ly meeting of the group, held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. R. W. Denman, 1218 W. Main street. Laura Billings, Kenneth Jones Wedding Tonight The wedding of Miss Laura Billings, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Billings of Ashland and Flight Officer Kenneth H. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan ley C. Jones of 512 Pennsylvania avenue, is being held at the Methodist churcb in Ashland this evening. Dr. George W. Bruce will read the service at 8 o'clock. Flight Officer Jones arrived in Medford last Wednesday oh a 20 day furlough from Byersburg, Tenn., where he is stationed with the air corps. He was graduated from Medford high school with the class of 1943, and Miss Bill ings is a graduate of the Ash land schools, and has attended Southern Oregon College of Education- Episcopal Choir Guests Sunday At Garden Party Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Frame of Phoenix entertained about 25 members and guests of St. Mark's Episcopal church choir at a garden party and pic nic last Sunday evening. Supper was served about 5:30 o'clock. Guests at the affair included Pvt. Manford Hecht of Camp White, and his wife, Cpl. E.; Scanlon, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Boulet of Chicago. Mrs. Boulet Is the former Barbara Holt, and Mr. and Mrs. Boulet are in Med ford now visiting her parents, Dr. and Mrs. W. W. P. Holt. Father George R. Turney, rec tor of St. Mark's church, led in group singing, and Pvt. Hecht and Cpl. Scanlon sang solos. Bar'nums Have Family Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Berthold Baro- um entertained at a large family dinner at their home on the South Pacific highway recently, when their son. Pvt. Bill Barn- urn, was home on furlough from the army air corps. Tables for 25 guests were ar ranged on the lawn. The affair also observed the 85th birthday anniversary of Mrs. Barnum's mother, Mrs. Margaret Lydiard Out of town guests present included Miss Jean Gammill of San Francisco and Mrs. M. A. Matz of Minot, N. D-, who are visiting relatives in the valley, and Mrs. Robert Hosack of Mos cow, la., who with Mr. Hosack and their two small daughters have spent some time in Med ford this summer as guests of Mrs. Hosack's parents, Col. and Mrs. W. Mrs. Hartley" Visiting Daughter In Medford Mrs. L- P- Hartley, wife of Col. Hartley who was formerly sta tioned at Camp White and is now at Camp Gruber, Okla., is visit ing In Medford with her daught er. Mrs. T. L. Martin. Mrs. Hartley plans to remain here un til the lglter part of August. Leverettes Hosts To Posse, Troop At Outdoor Party Mr. and Mrs. Walter Leverette entertained members of the Jackson county sheriff's posse and their wives, and the posse auxiliary, the Ladies' Mounted troop and their husbands, and visiting guests at a swimming party and dance, Thursday eve ning at the Leverette home on South Pacific highway. Dinner was served outdoors to more than 80 guests, and the group enjoyed swimming and dancing on the lawn and around the pool. Music was furnished by a four piece orchestra, which played throughout the evening, presenting western numbers and accompaniment for group sing ing by guests. Several persons rode from their homes in various parts of the valley, and others drove or met at the sheriff's posse stables to ride to the Lev erette home. At a short business meeting before the dinner, two new mem bers were taken Into the posse, J. J. Finegan, 618 S. Holly street, and M. "Red" Licbman of South Peach street. Announcements of new directors and committees for the coming year were made by Captain Leverette, and plans tor tne big professional rodeo to be held Saturday and Sunday, sept. B and 9. were discussed. An overnight ride was announc ed for early fall, by Dr. C. James Hayes, new chairman of the rid ing and entertainment commit tee. Bill Grenbemer and C. Lyall Fidler assisted with cooking and serving. Visitor From Canada Leaves For California J. W. Oaks of Saskatoon. Can ada, who spent a few days visit ing with his mother-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Newton of Medford, left by bus Tuesday evening for Bakersficld, Calif., where he will visit his son, Harold Oaks, and family. Mistletoe Club Meets For Dessert Luncheon Twenty-five members of the Mistletoe club met for a dessert luncheon Wednesday at the Girls Community club, with Mrs. J. W. Grantham as hostess. The after noon was spent in crocheting and knitting afghan squares for military hospitals. California Woman Honored at Dinner Complimenting Mrs. William Roberts of North Hollywood, Calif., who is in Medford visit ing her sister, Mrs. Clem Em mens, Mrs. Lillian R. Salade is entertaining at an Informal din ner party at her home in Central Point this evening. Dinner will be served in the yard to 18 guests. Mrs. Roberts plans to remain in the city about two weeks longer. Get-together Club Annual Picnic Today Mrs. Eve Prentice and her ac cordion students will play at the annual Get-together club picnic today, at the Girl Scout day camp site on Bear Creek. Each person attending is asked to bring a lunch and table service, and the club will furnish ice cream, coffee, and cream. Those desiring transportation arc asked to meet in the city park at 4 p. m. F. Karcher of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ensign B Rodney Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben H. Schmidt, 619 Ridge- way drive, were married here Thursday, Aug. 9, in the pres ence of members of the immedi ate family. The ceremony was performed at 11:30 o'clock in the morning by the Rev. George R. Turney, in St. Mark's Episcopal chapel. The group stood before an arrangement of white gladioli and roses. The bride wore a dressmaker suit of pearl gray, with white accessories, and a corsage of garde nias. Miss Jacqueline Schmidt, sister of the groom, was Miss Karcher's only attend ant. Following the ceremony, a wedding luncheon was served at the Holland Hotel, after which the couple left on a short trip. At the conclusion of his naval leave, Ensign Schmidt will re port to San Francisco for over seas duty. He received training at the University of Redlands, and Harvard University naval supply school. Naval Officers Guests at Party Mrs. I. E. Schuler and Mrs. Al fred S. V. Carpenter entertained a group of about 40 naval officers and their wives and other guests at a swimming and supper party yesterday evening, held Jointly at the Outpost and the Carpenter home on the Old Stage road, The officers are stationed at the Camp White hospital, which was transferred from army to naval command recently, and is now being operated for both navy and army personnel. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter were also hosts to a group of military and civilian guests at a swim mlng party and picnic supper on the terrace of their home inurs day evening. Chrysanthemum Circle Plans Initiation Soon Plans for initiation, which will be held at the next meeting, the second Wednesday In September, were made at the regular meet ing of Chrysanthemum circle, Neighbors of Woodcraft, Wednes day evening in the K of P hall. Following the business session, refreshments were served by Mrs. Carrie Milnes and Mrs. Celeste Pickel. Two Medford Women Visiting In New York The Misses Rose and Mary Widmer of Medford are visiting their sister, Mrs. Henry A. Val entine in New York City, and write local friends that they have seen several interesting places in New York and Long Island. They also saw the giant liner, the Queen Elizabeth, ar rive with troops from Europe and dock on the North River. The young women expect to remain in New York another two months, awaiting return of their brother-in-law, a paratrooper in the first airborne army and at present on occupation duty in Berlin. Paratrooper Valentine Is awaiting discharge on points, and plans to return to southern Oregon this fall with his wife and three children, to make their home here. The three sisters are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Xavler Widmer of Barneburg road. AMBULANCE SERVICE Marguerite Mills Complimented At Tea in Ashland Mrs. Marguerite Mills of Med ford, who plans to leave this week for Alaska where she will spend the next year, was com plimented at a tea last Sunday afternoon, given by Mrs. Rose Robinette and Miss Victoria Tavener at their home in Ash land. A large number of Medford and Ashland people attended. After meeting a receiving line in the living room, guests pro ceeded to the garden to visit. Mrs. Proc Klum, Mrs. R. E. Pos ton, Mrs. Monroe, and Mrs. Jim McKair poured. Mrs. Mills made her home in Ashland for several years, and taught at the Junior high school before coming to Medford. She has served as dean of women and instructor of English at Medford senior high school. Mrs, Mills will sail from Seattle Aug. 18, and plans to remain in Alas ka for a year. 1 - Sunday Picnics Held in Valley Former residents of Kansas, Colorado and Wisconsin met in Lithia park in Ashland for thtir annual picnics last Sunday. Families from all sections of the county attended, and the picnic dinners were followed by busi ness and social meetings. Nevita chapter, Order of Eastern Star, was host to mem bers of Alpha chapter from Ash land at a picnic Sunday, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Coon near Shady Cove. Pythian Group Meets Tuesday About 30 members of the Py thian club and their husbands at tended a pot luck supper and card party at the Girls' Commun ity club Tuesday evening. Sup per was served at 6:30 o'clock, and the evening was spent play ing progressive pinochle. Pinochle prizes went to Mrs. Ruth Walden, Mrs. Maude Stew art, George Fisk and William Swartz. Hostesses for the affair were Mrs. Delia Watkins and Mrs. Florence Siegel. S. F. Club Guettt At Willlami Home Mrs. Laura Williams entertain ed the S. F. club at her home on West 11th street Wednesday at a 1 o clock luncheon. The after noon was spent in games and knitting afghan blocks for the Camp White hospital.
