Ford Wed at Church At a 9 o'clock ceremony Wed nesday morning, July 25, at the Roman Catholic church, Miss Lila (Pat) Bertram, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bertram, 312 S. Riverside avenue, became the bride of Edward E. Ford ship fitter first class, U. S. navy, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Ford, Sr., 1114 West 8th street Father Henry A. Orth read the double ring ceremony before Im mediate friends and relatives of the couple. The bride wore a gold colored sergo suit, with an orchid cor sage. Her maid of honor was the groom's sister, Miss Wilma Ford who was dressed In a brown gabardine suit with corsage of yellow Talisman roses. Jimmy Miller was best man. Mothers of both the bride and groom wore suits, Mrs. Bertram being black with white accesso ries, and Mrs. Ford's of copen blue with saddle tan accessories They had gardenia corsages. After the ceremony, a wed ding breakfast was served at the Holland hotel. Guests were par ents of the bride and groom, Mrs. Freda Klngsley, Miss Wilma Ford, Mrs. Hugo Ford, Jr., Father Henry Orth, Ronald Ber tram. Mrs. Norma McAllister, Mrs. Donald Mills and Miss Myrna Ford. On their return from a short wedding trip, the couple will be at home to friends at their apart ment. 823V4 West 10th itroet. 'Adarel Chapter Marks Birthday At Spencer Home Marking the 65th birthday an niversary of Adarel Chapter No 3, Order of Eastern Star, at Jack sonville, about 70 members and guests of the group were enter tained Sunday evening at a pot- luck dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Spencer, Merry- Mac Orchard, on King's highway. Dinner was served on the lawn bout 7 o'clock, and the evening was spent in games and visiting Miss Molly Britt and Emil Brltt two of the oldest members of the chapter, spoke on events which have transpired In the chapter since its founding In 1880. The Jacksonville group is the second oldest O. E. S. chapter in the state of Oregon, 'Ashland Girl Weds Sergeant The marriage of Miss Clcnlta Ellen Mcchan of Ashland and SSgt. George W. Stccn, station ed at Camp Tule Lake, Calif., took place Saturday evening, July 14 at the home of the Rev. D. E. Millard In Medford. Mrs. C. E. McBroom, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and Sgt. Neil F. McLaughlin was best man, Otheri attending the wedding were Mrs. Margaret B. July 29, 1943 McG raw-Bounds Marriage Rites Held in Ashland Mr. and Mrs. J. S. McGraw. 203V4 N. Holly street, announce the marriage of their daughter, Gloria, to Rene Bounds, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Bounds of Ashland on July 8. Elder Earl Clements read the evening serv ice at 7:30 o'clock in the Latter Day Saints' chapel at Ashland, In a setting of white daisies, roses, and baby breath. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin floor-length dress with long train and finger tip veil held in place with a wreath of orange blos soms. Her bouquet was of white lilies, pink carnations, and baby breath. Maid of honor was Mrs. Loyal G. Harper, the former Evelyn Van Hise, who wore a yellow net formal and carried a bouquet of white gladioli and pink carna tlons. Alvin Bounds, brother of the groom, was best man. Mothers of both the bride and groom wore dresses of navy blue and corsages of red roses ana white gardenias. At a reception held in the church banquet room following the wedding, the bride and groom first cut the three-tiered wedding cake, which was served from a table decorated with tiny pink roses. Mrs. Harper com pleted the cutting, and Mrs. Dave Neilson, sister of the groom, and Mrs. H. W. Van Hise assisted in serving the 65 guests. Mrs. Bounds has been em ployed at the First National Bank in Medford for the past five months, and her husband has an honorable discharge from the navy. The couple spent a week In Portland, and have returned to the valley now to make their home on tho Bounds ranch near Ashland. 1 Family Reunion Marks Birthday At Pierce Home With both sons and their father home together for the first time in six years, and the entire fam ily gathered together for the first time in history, the C. L. Pierce family of route 2, box 185, Cen tral Point, had a dinner at Rupp's Central Point restaurant Monday evening, in honor of tho birth day of Mrs. Pierce and her twin sister, Mrs. Marion Toy of Oma ha. Mrs. Toy Is visiting here at present. Recently placed on Inactive duty, Major C. L. Pierce, in fantry (retired) is now home to stay. The Pierce's eldest son. H. Pierce, pharmacist's mate fip-t class, and a pre-Pcarl Harbor en listee now stationed at the naval hospital at Corvallis, is visiting his parents, with his wife, the former Iris Hill of Central Point. Pfc. P. J. Pierce has just ar rived In the valley on furlough afUr his return to the United States with Terry Allen's Tim berwolf division from Germany. The Pierce's daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. II. F. Mar- n, are also here, Mr. Martin being on leave from the navy. A pre-Pcarl Harbor enlistee, lie is a boatswain's mate first class. Other guests at the birthday dinner were Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Hill and Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Frecland. Medford Women Return From California Visit Mrs. 11. H. , i I Mahet Winningham And Carl Dykstra Engagement Told Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Winning ham of Jacksonville have an nounced the engagement of their daughter, Mabel, to SSgt. Carl Dykstra of the army air corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dyk stra, Grand Rapids, Mich. No date has been set for the wed ding, which is planned for the near future. Miss Winningham was gradu ated from Medford senior high school in June, 1941. and for the past three years has been em ployed as supervisor and in structor at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company in this city. Sgt. Dykstra returned to the United States in April of this year, after spending two and a half years - In Alaska and Can ada. At present he is stationed at Davis Monthan army air field in Tucson, Ariz. He was station ed at the Medford air base be fore leaving for overseas duty. Military Couple Married Monday At Post Chapel The marriage of First Lt. Glenn H. Miller of the Medford army air base and Second Lt. Clara E. Larson of the Camp White station hospital was sol emnized at the Camp White post chapel Monday evening. July 23, with Chaplain Ernest V. May of ficiating. Lt. Larson, an army nurse at the hospital, was attended by Second Lt. Edna E. Hambasch as maid of honor, and Second Lt John Morgani of the Medford air base was best man. The entire wpddine nartv was dressed in military uniforms. During the ceremony, Miss Ell Louise sang "O Promise Me," and the wedding march was play ed by Cpl. John C. Phillips. About forty guests attended a reception at the Outpost in Medford following the wedding. The bride and groom first cut the wedding cake, and serving was continued informally. The Outpost was decorated with gladioli and the table was cen tered with candles. The couple left on a three-day trip before returning to Medford to make their home. Dakota Couple Married at USO The first wedding ever held at the Riverside USO center took place Friday evening when Miss Margaret Melberg of Grand Forks, N. D., and Cpl. Lester, new Crater Lake highway, and Donald M. route 1, which took place Sunday guests were prasent when th Rev, W. A. Dawes read the service at the First Baptist church in Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Minear are now at home at the Minear orchard and farm. (Photo by Shangle). Dorothy Galloway, Vaughn Whitmore Married Saturday Gold Hill On Saturday. July 21, Miss Dorothy Lucille Gallo way, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Dcnsmore of Myrtle Creek. Ore., became the bride of Vauuhn Patrick Whitmore. son of Mr and Mrs. Vaughn M. Whitmore of Gold Hill. The ceremony was performed at the parsonage of Sacred Heart church in Medford by the Rev. Henry Orth. The bride wore a gown of white satin with shoulder length veil of lace, held in place with a coronet of pearls. She carried a colonial nosegay. The couple loft the same eve ning on a trip to Eugene and Portland, and on their return expect to make their home in Gold Hill. Carpenters Hosts At Outdoor Party Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Scott of Arcadia, Calif., and Miss Esther Clinck of Pasadena, house guests at the Carpenter home. Mr. and Mrs. Scott and Miss Clinck arrived in Medford by private plane Thursday. About 350 Officers' Club, Nurses' Quarters Scene of Parties About 75 persons attended a party Tuesday evening, given for the officer personnel at the Camp White station hospital by the army nurse corps, and held in the nurses' quarters on the post. Army and navy officers attached to the hospital and civilian guests from Medford were included in the group. The affair was arranged by Capt. Frances E. Richards, prin cipal chief nurse at the hospital. Following the reception, danc ing was enjoyed, with music by the SCU 1913 orchestra. Sunday evening about 50 cou ples attended an informal "at home" party for Camp White of ficers and their guests at the of ficers' club on the post. A buffet supper was served outdoors, on the lawn beneath colored lights. Bridge and dancing to the SCU orchestra completed the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Entertaining Tonight Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holmes are entertaining at a small din ner parly at their home on Mo doc avenue this evening. Phoenix Grange Picnic At Ashland Park Today. Members of the Phoenix Grange are asked to meet at the grange hall at 11 a. m. todny to arrange transportation , for everyone attending the grange picnic in Lithia Park at Ash land. The affair will be a pot-luck dinner, served cafeteria style, and coffee and Ice cream will be furnished. Those who can arc requested to bring card tables. Wesleyan Guild Entertained at Double Shower Members of the Wesleyan Ser vice Guild of the Methodist church and their guests were en tertained at a double shower Tuesday evening, at the home of Marjorie Hopkins on Crater Lake highway. The affair was a bridal shower honoring Miss Ann Bate man, whose marriage to Jacob Gorby will take place Aug. 2, and a baby howcr for Mrs. Emer son T. Anderson. A picnic supper was served in the yard, and the evening was spent in games and singing. The Medford guild was enter tained earlier in the month by the Ashland group, at a dinner at the home of the Rev. George Bruce in Ashland. Miss Vilas Returns To Beverly Hills Miss Susan Vilas left Wednes day evening for Beverly Hills, Calif., after spending two weeks in Medford visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Vilas. Miss Vilas is under contract with War ner Brothers studio, and will have a screen test made within the next six months. Dakota Groups Holding Picnic in Ashland Park Ashland's Lithia Park will be the scene today of the annual picnic for all former residents of North and South Dakota liv ing or visiting in the valley. Din ner has been planned for 1 p. m., and those attending are asked to bring a picnic dinner, table ser vice, and sugar for their own group. Ice cream, coffee and cream will be furnished, and Alexander's string orchestra will provide musical entertainment. A business meeting and elec tion of officers will be followed by a program arranged by John A. Carter and including a tug of war between North and South Dakota residents, foot races and games. Lindsay Married in Salem The study of the Presbyterian church in Salem was the scene Wednesday noon, July 25, of the wedding of Miss Lavonne Sumer lin, daughter of Dr. and Mri. L. L. Sumerlin, and TSgt. Phillip A. Lindsay, son of Mrs. John Owens of Ashland. The bride wore a blue suit with blue and white accessories and an orchid corsage. Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hlmmel of balem, uncle and aunt of the bride. Mrs. Himmel wore a navy blue suit with pink accessories and a gar denia corsage. After the wedding, a dinner was served the bridal party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Him mel. Sgt. and Mrs. Lindsay are spending a few days In Port land and Gearhardt before the sergeant reports to Ft. Lewis, Wash. Mrs. Lindsay plans to re turn to Ashland for a few weeks and will leave next month for Ft. Jackson, S. C, to join him. Both Sgt. and Mrs. Lindsay were graduated from Ashland high school. For the past two years, Mrs. Lindsay has attend ed college at Southern Oregon College of Education and Los Angeles City College. Sgt. Lind say attended the Southern Ore gon College of Education before entering the service two years 1 ago. He recently returned to this country after eight months! overseas duty. G. Hughes ranch on Ross Lane. Hosts for the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. William Grenbemer and Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Leonard. Nearly a hundred members and guests of the groups attend ed. Several met at the posse stables and rode to the ranch, while others rode from various parts of the valley or drove. Walter Leverette, new cap tain of the posse, was Introduced. Mrs. S. A. Philips, captain of the Ladles' Mounted Troop, ex tended an invitation to the men of the posse and their wives, and ladies of the troop and their husbands, to attend a dinner this evening at the home of Mrs. Recce Braley, 245 Valley View drive, as guests of the mounted troop.
