He is visiting bis parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Schollenburg, 528 May street. Boot Hera Capt. Robert W. Boot has arrived home on a 30 day leave from Porto Rico and is visiting his wife, the former Betty Fowler, who makes her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. To Move Station Application to move the residence located at 618 East Main street, to 16 Tripp street was made yesterday at the city superintendent's office by a Miss Willkie, and the Union Oil company made application for a permit to move a service station to the East Main street site. Batumi Mr. Luetic Wilcox who has been a house guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ever ett Biyton while here on a short business trip, returned to Portland today. From Long Beach Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Lewis of Long Beach are visiting Mrs. Lewis' mother, Mrs. Ida Hault, 328 Haven street, and her brother, H. R. Walker of 409 Summit avenue. Return Mrs. R. L. Chisman, 436 North Holly street, and Miss Lillian Newton, 513 Liberty street, returned yesterday from Portland where they have spent the past week visiting friends and relatives. On Furlough Pvt. Barney Logan arrived home Wednesday from Camp Roberts, Calif., to spend a 10-day furlough with his wife and baby' at the family home, 422 South Ivy street. He will report for overseas assign ment upon exipration of his fur lough. Employed Jack Clark, well known sportsman who has made his home in this vicinity for the past 20 years, has been em ployed by the Acme hardware store, on West Main street, to specialize in handling of sports equipment. Mr. and Mrs. Clark reside at 504 West Jackson street. Examiner Here A traveling examiner of operators and chauf feurs arrived in Medford today and will be on duty at the K. of P. hall between the hours of 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. Friday and Saturday. Those wishing per mits or licenses to drive cars are asked to get in touch with the examiner during these hours. Fire Runs Firemen answer ed a call yesterday to the home of Glen Bachert, 375V4 South Central avenue, to extinguish a fire which firemen said . was started by a cigarette. A chair was considerably damaged, ac cording to the report. Another run was made earlier to the home of J. E. Ottlnger, 220 South Grape street, to extinguish a fire which damaged a garage and woodshed. Brothers Meet Pfc. Wayne L. Knapp and his brother, Pfc. Kenneth K. Knapp met recently on Luzon, after serving overseas near each other for several months. Kenneth is with the 25th Division, and Wayne is with the 43rd Division, known as "Winged Victory." Kenneth has been overseas 18 months, most of the time on New Cale donia, and Wayne has been there seven months. An older brother, Cpl. James Knapp, is in northern Italy with the 10th Mountain Troops. Picnic Sunday Disabled American Veterans and auxil iary will hold their annual pic nic Sunday at Jackson Hot Springs, with a picnic dinner to be served at 12 o'clock. All dis abled veterans and their fami lies are invited to attend, and each family is asked to bring a basket dinner. During the sum mer vacation, auxiliary mem bers are reminded by officers to crochet afghan squares for the veterans' hospital. Further in formatioon about the crochet work may be had by calling Cora Tingley or Nettie Cassman. To Klamath Parker W. Woods, manager of Leon's store, left the city Wednesday for Klamath Falls, to -prepare for the opening today of a new com pany store in Klamath Falls. Stolen John. Babbit, 1618 West Riverside avenue, reported to local police yesterday the theft sometime Wednesday night of a yellow wheel and tire from a convertible coupe, police said today. a Cars'Colllde Cars operated by- J. Hoover and son, Earl, left this morning for their home in Whittier, Calif., after spending the past week visiting Hr. Hoov er's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hoover on route 4. Arriving here last Friday, the Hoovers brought a riding horse from California for C. C. Hoov er. To Portland R. L. Becbe, as sistant manager for the local Montgomery Ward store since the first of the year, plans to leave August 12 for Portland where he expects to enter into a partnership food brokerage busi ness. Mr. Beebe's wife and daughters will also leave to make their home in Portland. He plans to return to Medford occasional ly on business. Return Miss Joan Hoppe and Miss Janet Day returned yester day from San Francisco where they spent the past three weeks visiting friends and relatives. Miss Day also visited her broth er. Pfc. Fred Day, in Los An geles. ' while he was on leave from the army air field at Las Vegas, Nev. Pfc. Day is expected to arrive here next week to visit his mother, Mrs. Clater Johns ton, and sister, at 204 Crater Lake avenue. Boy Injured Glenn Elvin Cave, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. W E. Cave, 822 West Twelfth street, was Injured slightly yes terday following a collision with a logging truck on Eleventh and South Front streets, city police reported today.. The boy, on a bicycle, was thrown clear of the truck but the bicycle reportedly was wrecked considerably. Clyde W. Ashinhurst, Route 2, was driver of the truck, accord ing to police. Burreson Here Sgt. Norman Burreson arrived in the valley Wednesday to spend a 30-day furlough visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burreson of Sams Valley, and his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Bleghler and son. The Bieghler family plans to leave next week for Colorado for an extended visit with Mr. Biegh- ler's parents near Denver, Son Born Lt. and Mrs. Tom A. Helman are parents of a boy born July 15 In Columbus, O., where Mrs. Helman makes her home with her parents. The child weighed seven and one-half pounds. It. Helman is stationed at Great Falls, Mont., and flies B-29's out of Seattle with the army transport command. When he was in England from August of 1943 to March, 1944, the lieu tenant and his B-17 bomber crew established a record for shooting down 12 confirmed en emy planes in a single raid over the continent. Grandmother of the child is Mrs. Alice Helman, 420 Pearl street. BLAZE OF PATRIOTISM North Adams, Mich.
