CHINESE HERBS Removed to Sparta Bldg. Your Health and It's Care By DR. WILLIAM BRADY. M.D. Readers should address inquiries toi Dr. William Brady. 265 CI Camlno. Beverly Hills. Calif. MORE RABBIT FOOD, By "rabbit food" I mean fod der, feed, hay, vegetables, whole grains, greens. More specifically I mean the fresh, raw vegetables, rel ishes, herbs, leaves you and p a r tic u larly your children should eat ev ery day, either as salad or as a p p e t izer or relish but so seldom do. In my judg- Dr. Brady ment and re member, this is merely my opin ion, since there is no consensus of medical opinion available one of the predisposing causes of the appendicitis for which Yankeeland is famous is the vit amin Bl (thiamine) deficiency from which nearly all youngsters in Yankeeland suffer, thanks largely to the ignorance and credulity of their parents, teach ers, physicians, who permit 'the children to satiate themselves with the same kind of abdomi nal surgery as doctors routinely do here at home. McCarrison as cribed his patients' freedom from appendicitis to the character of the diet of the people of that country it consists principally of whole grains, fresh, vegetables or greens, eggs, milk the rich est food sources of vitamin B complex, of which Bl (thiamine) is a component. As a matter of fact we know that vitamin Bl in adequate amount is essential to maintain normal alimentary function (good digestion) and normal car bohydrate metabolism (utiliza tion of starch and sugar for pro duction of energy). If there is a constant Bl deficiency in the diet, it is reasonable, I believe, to assume that the individual will not have a sufficient degree of natural immunity to protect him against invasion of the ap pendix by the various strains of bacteria we find responsible for acute appendicitis. And that's all I can say about the nature and cause of acute ap pendicitis. Whether my notion of it appeals to you or not, I may add this suggestion: Even if your kids are sissified and conditioned against spinach, lettuce, raw cab bage, beet greens, turnip greens, celery, raw carrot, raw turnip, raw potato etc., as so many pam pered children are in Yankee land, you can still combat the evil influence of malnutrition by keeping always in the house a supply of plain wheat and en couraging the kids to chew it (in place of gum), to eat it (cracked in coffee grinder and cooked more or less) as breakfast cereal or as a main ingredient in vari ous appetizing items as de scribed in the pamphlet "Wheat to Eat" available on written re quest if you inclose stamped self addressed envelope (clipping of this item will not suffice). Plain wheat, unrefined, unprocessed, is the richest, most economical, most healthful food source ot vitamin B-complex, and besides it is good to eat.
