Myron Corcoran will leave Medford next Wednesday for Camp Polk, La., following a 10 day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Corcoran, Route 2, Box 445. Pvt. Corcoran is with an armored division and will re port for overseas duty. r Harrison On Furlough Pvt. R. M. Harrison arrived home Wednesday on a 30-day furlough following his return July 11 to the U. S. from France. Harrison, who wears the presidential unit citation, is visiting his wife, Route 2, Box 310, and his moth er, Mrs. J. H. Pine, Route 4, and other relatives. He was with the 22nd infantry o the 4th division and will report to Camp Beal, Calif. Visiting Parents First Lt. and Mrs. C. E. Chamberlain are in Medford on a week's leave from Camp Stoneman, Pittsburg. Cal., visiting at the homes of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cham berlain of Eagle Point, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Purdin, 335 Fair mount avenue. Calif., have been visiting relatives and friends in Medford, on vacation from their homes in California. They left Wednesday for Van couver, B. C. " From Klamath Coxwain and Mrs. Jesse H. Coleman and chil dren are visiting this week at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Coleman, 1026 West Tenth street. Coleman, on leave from the navy at Klamath Falls, will leave with his family Sun day to report back to the base. Reports to Base Steve Zwan, AMMlc, left Medford this morning after spending the past week visiting his sister and brother-in-law, . Mr. and Mrs. Virgil O. Anderson, 717 West 14th street. Zwan will report back to the naval base at Pasco, Wash. Tengwald Home Cpl. Victor Tengwald arrived home this morning from Ft, Lewis, Wash., where he received an honorable discharge from the army follow ing service with the 106th divi sion in the European theater. Grass Fires Two grass fires were extinguished last night by city firemen, one at the home of George Howard on Bennett street and the other at a vacant lot, 728 Catherine street. No damage was reported. Swing Sunday The Navy Mothers club will serve refresh ments at the USO Sunday after noon, It was announced today. Pies, sandwiches and salads are wanted, and members should leave food at the USO by 4 p. m. Sunday. e Examiner Coming A travel ing examiner of operators and chauffeurs will be at the KP hall Saturday from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Those attending are ask ed to bring basket lunches, and ice cream, coffee, and cream will be furnished by the auxiliary, On Leave Bill McMullln, CM 2'c, is visiting friends in the valley this week after spending 27 months on naval sea duty, during which he participated in seven major campaigns. He ex pects to be joined here later this month by his sister, June Mc Mullin, who is now a Wave, sta tioned in Utah. The two former ly resided In Phoenix. Emerson On Furlough Staff Sgt. Jack C. Emerson is in Med ford on a 5-day furlough from Camp Maxey, Texas, visiting his father, W. J. Emerson of- 408 Alice street. Emerson arrived Tuesday night. A Medford high school graduate of 193S, he has been In the service nearly four years, 34 months of which have been in overseas duty. Medal Awarded The purple heart medal has been awarded posthumously to William Lyman Jackson, chief pharmacist's mate, for wounds received in action and which resulted In his death, aboard the carrier "Ben Frank lin" on March 19. The carrier was engaged in attacking the Japanese fleet in the inland sea when Jackson was killed. Hera From Navy R U f u s Vounger, EM l'c, is visiting his wife, daughter and parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Younger, until August 12 on leave from the na vy seabees at Camp Parks, Calif. Younger just returned from the Pacific where he has spent the past 29 months. His wife and daughter reside at the Perrydale orchard and his parents at 611 West Eighth street. Jones' Here Capt. and Mrs. W. Garland Jones are visiting for a few days at the home of Mrs. Jones' parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. V. Carpenter on the Old Stage road. Capt. Jones arrived in this country only a few days ago after 11 months in the Euro pean theatre, and Mrs. Jones went to Portland to meet him before returning here. Capt. Jones has a 30-day leave before reporting for further duty. Leave For Duty Pvt. Allen Sterton and Pvt. Spencer Brom ley left the city yesterday for further service with the air corps following 15-day furloughs here. Sterton visited his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Sterton, 716 West 14th street, and Pvt. Bromley was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Brown, Route 1, Central Point. Bromley will re port to Scott Field, near Chica go, and Sterton to Keesler field, Miss. Marlette served with the naval air corps in the South Pacific for one year. Holmgren, whose wife, Mar garet M., resides at 815 East Main street, has been awarded the bronze star, according to a release from the public re'atlons section, European theatre of ocerations. Major Holmgren participated in the Rhlneland and central Europe campaigns. In Corvallls Pvt. Dwight Zu laf has reported for duty at Ore gon State college, Corvallls, Ore., for participation in the ASTRP, according to word from the college. Pvt. Zulaf will re ceive two terms of college edu cation before reporting for active duty with the army. A former student at Phoenix high school and University of Oregon, he Is the son of Raymond Zulaf, box 72, Phoenix, and was active in athletic and musical groups of the schools. Bronsa Star News of the award of the bronze star to Capt. Mansel S. Slaughter of the 91st Infantry division has been re ceived by local friends of the captain, who was stationed at Camp White with the division for several months. The award was made for "meritorious serv ice in combat" from July 13, 1944 to May 2, 1945, according to the citation.
