July It, 1945 SALVAGE PICKUP IN COUNTY WILL START ON MONDAY Pickup of paper and tin cans by the Shriners salvage commit tee will start monaay mumiug, according to an announcement by John Rolston, chairman. Med ford Armory has been establish ed as the main salvage deport and all collections will be accu mulated there. Arrangements have been made made for collections from rural areas with state highway trucks to bring salvage from out lying depots to the main depot. Outlying Depots Outlying depots have been es tablished at Butte Falls, Eagle Point, Trail, Prospect, Jackson ville, Hogue River, Berrydale, (near Big Y Market), Ruch, Ap plegate store, Oak Grove (Shores filling station), Sams Valley store, Table Rock store, Central Point, Brownsboro, Lake Creek, Shady Cove, McLcod, Gold Hill, Phoenix, Talent and Foots Creek service station. All bundles must be securely tied, covers must be removed from books, and cartons and cardboard boxes must be flat tened and bundled. Wax paper cannot be used, the committee said. Collection will start at 9 a. m. Monday and all bundles of paper should be placed on the curb. Dr. Louis Patmont To Preach Sunday, Phoenix Christian An Interpreter and translator at the recent United Nations con ference in San Francisco, Dr. Louis R. Patmont of Berkeley, Cal., will occupy the pulpit of E THURSDAY, FRIDAY, A- 2 i AIRPLANE SPRAY E TO PREVENT DROP Arrangements for airplane (praying of at least 400 acres of Rogue River Valley pear trees have been made by local ship ping organizations with the Sherwin-Williams company North Pacific administration at Yaki ma, Wash., it was announced to day by officials of the company visiting Medford. An airplane from the Central Aircraft corporation at Yakima will arrive about the first week in September, to apply "Stop- Drop," a product developed to prevent excess dropping of fruit before maturity. The product was developed In 1940 for ground application by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, and the Sherwin-Williams company has adapted it to airplane appli cation' and pioneered research work In Washington, with co operation of the aircraft corpora tion, it was stated. Tests carried but last year in Yakima and Wenatchee proved very successful, with spraying carried out on 1,200 acres of commercial apples and pears. Costs of the airplane application are approximately the same as ground application, according to the representatives of the Sherwin-Williams company. Airplane application will be Dr. Patmont the Phoenix Christian church Sunday morning and evening, Dr. Patmont conducted a pro- 'tracted meeting in Medford last spring. Sermon subject for the morn ing will be "A New Thing in the World," and for evening, "What About the Soviet Problem?" Dr. Patmont has made many world tours and is a master linguist, church officials state. Okinawa GIs Get Japanese Hold-Out Okinawa, July 18 (U.PJ Lt. Col. Tokiharu Aoyagi, probobly the highest-ranking Japanese guerilla officer on Okinawa, was trapped and shot by an Ameri can army patrol this week, it was disclosed today. U. S. troops found enough food, weapons and ammunition in Aoyagi's hideout to last a year. A large part of it had been captured from American forces. TAXI COMPANY SEEKS $983 IN COLLISION Warren B. Hamlin, doing busi ness as the Yellow Cab, yester day filed suit in circuit court against Earl Clements, for $983.02, as the result of a crash between a Yellow Cab taxi and a car driven by Clements, at Bartlett and Eighth street on April 14, 1944. The complaint alleges Clements drove his auto in a reckless, negligent and care less manner and at high speed. For damage to the taxi, $283 is sought arid for loss of its use for 13 days at $50, the1 sum of $750 is asked. Attorney Frank J. VanDyke, appears as counsel for Hamlin. Thurs day. A similar demonstration given in Ashland yesterday, was attended by 185 women. A sec ond session will be held here on I Friday, at the same time and i place. According to Miss Farrell, Medford homemakers will have a greater opportunity to receive helpful suggestions since the de monstration will be divided into two meetings. Thursday's demonstration will be devoted to the preservation of fruits, giving special emphasis to sugar saving suggestions. On Friday, particular emphasis will be placed on canning and freez ing vegetables and the use of the pressure cooker. Mrs. Freeman win allow time for answering.
