Prior to coming to United
States after having been select
ed for officer candidate school,
Lt. Downing spent a year in the
southwest Pacific where he par
ticipated in four major cam
paigns. He took part in battles
at Guadalcanal, Bougainville,
Raboul and Munda Airstrip. He
has been in the service seven
years.
Lt. Downing is now stationed
at Fort Fannin, Tex., where ha
is receiving advanced training.
