LOCAL and PERSONAL Beiurni Oris Crawford, city treasurer, returned Monday from Portland where he spent several days attending to business. Visiting Relatives Miss Aud rey' Davis, 128 South Holly stret, left Sunday for a two weeks' visit with relatives in Salem and Portland. Visiting Bill Turner, of the O. and C. land administration headquarters office, Portland, is visiting at the local O. and C. office for a few days. ' Club to Meet The Townsend club will meet every Friday eve ning at 8 o'clock at the K. P. hall, it was announced today. The public will be welcome. Meeting Tonight All mem bers of the Little Theater Group are requested to meet at 7:30 o'clock tonight at the Outpost. Officers and members of a board of directors will be elected. Meeting Postponed The Pyth ian club meeting planned for to morrow has been postponed un til next Monday, July 16, at 8 p. m. Schmidt is to leave Medford to morrow following a week's leave from the navyNwith his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben H.- Schmidt, 619 Ridgeway street. Ensign Schmidt has just been graduated from the Harvard supply course school, Boston, Mass., where he has been stationed for the past five months. Suth erlin is stationed at the Barks dale air field there. Making Home Here Pvt. and Mrs. O. B. Reeves and two dauglv ters arrived in Medford Satur- day to make their home in the city. Pvt. Reeves has been trans ferred to Camp White from 'Og den, Utah, and the family resides at 236 South Central avenue. Mrs. Bartrum Coming Mrs. Myrtle Bartrum, daughter of Mrs. Ada V. Rice of 525 S. Holly street, is expected to arrive in Medford tonight to spend about two weeks visiting her mother. Mrs. Bartrum is employed as a nurse In a Portland sanitarium. Visiting Fabrlcks Mrs. Sonla Black, of Portland, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fabrick, 2404 Hillcrest road. The Fabricks entertained Mrs Black's son, Lt. James A. Black, shortly before his death May 16 at the jet air base, Palmdale, Calif. ' Air Strip Begun City em ployes started work at noon to day grading the temporary lana- ing strip at the Medford air park located on the fair grounds, Frank Rogers, city superinten dent, said today. The strip will be completed as soon as possible, Rogers said. Champlins Here Charles Champlin, of Long Beach, Calil., former Medlord newspaper man, and his sister, Pauline Champlin, a Wave stationed at San Fran- cisco, are visiting their mother. Mrs. G. H. Maasdam, 420 Soutn Central avenue. They plan to leave tomorrow for their homes. At Camp Miss Lois Pringle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Pringle, 815 Reddy avenue, is spending six weeks at Hunting Lake camp for girls, Huntington lake, Calif., where she is an in structor in archery. Miss Pringle will enter her senior year at Stanford university next fall. Meeting Thursday The La dies' Aid society of St. Peter's Lutheran church, 10 Portland avenue, will meet at 1 p. m Thursday for a luncheon, fol lowed by a business meeting and Red Cross work. The meeting will be in the recreation hall of the church, and visitors are in vited to attend. Orders to Meet Crater Lake Aerie and Auxiliary Fraternal order of Eagles will meet Thurs day at 8 p. m. in the lodge hall, 21S West Main street. The Aerie will hold Initiation with the unl formed drill team present and refreshments and a dance will conclude the evening. Dale Carr, worthy president, requests all members to be on time. Accepts Position Robert F. Opie, former sergeant in the army engineers, today accepted the position of clerk warehouse man for the local Oregon and California Lands administration officials announced. Opie saw foreign service with the en gineers before receiving his dis charge and plans to make nis home in the city. RRIGATED AREA OF The 64,000 acres of presently irrigated area in the Rogue River Basin comprises the back bone of the agricultural economy which, according to the 1940 cen sus, provided a direct Income in 1939 of $5,645,000 to the farm ers of Jackson, Josephine and Curry counties, it was reported yesterday by F. C. Hart, head of the Medford office of the Bu reau of. Reclamation, an agency of the U. S. Department of In terior. Hart spoke at the noon lunch eon meeting of the Medford Ro tary club at the Medford hotel. He and his staff came to Med ford from Grants Pass in May, and have their office in the Fed eral building. Survey Being Mad The Bureau of Reclamation carries on investigation, design, construction and operation of projects involving utilization of water resources for irrigation and power purposes, Hart stated. In the survey work now being done ia the Rogue River Basin, the group is taking into consid eration Irrigation, flood control power, municipal water supply, navigation, recreation, fish and wildlife and mineral and timber resources, in recommendations for future development, he said. An additional 78.000 acres of land in the Rogue River Basin is suitable for irrigation, Hart re ported. Of 31 possible dam sites investigated in connection with the studies, nine are on the Ro gue River, three in the Klamath River draining and the others are on Rogue River tributaries, he added. He is employed in the ship yards at Berkeley, Cal, India Subject Of Nazarene Church Meeting Thursday India, land of political unrest, starving millions and unlimited opportunity for Christian mis sionary endeavor, will be dis cussed by Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Cook at the Church of the Naz arene in Medford Thursday eve ning at 7:45 p. m. Rev. and Mrs. Cook spent sev en years in India as missionaries of the Church of the Nazarene and will return there in the near future. July II, 194$ MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE BEVEH J'Ville Property Disconnected From City, Court Rules A decree in favor of Bruce P. Fleming and Harley R. Fleming, in their suit for disconnection from the city of Jacksonville has been made by Circuit Judge Her bert K. Hanna. The orchard and home property of the Flemings lies in the borders of Jackson ville. The decree makes the Fleming property Immune from any future tax or bonds levied by Jacksonville, but does not absolve them from any past levies. The decree was made under a 1943 act of the legislature, which permits owners of agricultural property within city limits to file suit for disconnection. Attorney Charles W. Reamcs reports more such suits are planned, and that a similar de cree was recently granted to Roy P. Martin.
