FOUR MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Society and Qubs Evelyn Van Hise, , Loyal G. Harper Married June 16 Miss Evelyn Van Hise, daught er of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Van Hise of 928 East Jackson boule vard, became the bride of Loyal G. Harper, radioman third class. United States navy, in a cere mony performed June 16 at the Holland hotel. Mr. Harper's parents are Mr. and Mrs. H. Harper of 27 Lewis avenue. The marriage vows were read by Elder Clemens of the Latter Day Saints' church at 9:30 o'clock in the evening in the presence of immediate members of the family. The bride, given In marriage bv her father, wore a white formal dress. Her veil was held In Dlace by orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of red roses and white gardenias. Maid of honor was Miss Gloria McGraw, who wore a formal gown of pink net and carried gardenias. Bob Tingley, machinist's mate first class, United States navy, was best man. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Van Hise wore a black dress with red rose corsage. Mrs. Harper was dressed in navy blue, with a corsage of red roses. A reception following the wedding was also held at the hotel, with Mrs. L. Ritchie, sister of the bride, serving. Mrs. Harper attended the Med ford schools, and is employed at Adrienne's. Mr. Harper worked in Medford before cnt cring the navy three years ago. He has served several months of overseas duty, and is now' at tached to a gun boat. Mr. and Mrs. Harper were at home to their friends at 414 Newtown street until he left June 28 to return to Norfolk Va. In his absence, Mrs. Harper is making her home with her parents. Wetleyan Service Guild Will Be Ashland Gutiti Members of tho Weslcyan Ser vice Guild of the Medford Meth odist church will be guests of the Ashland guild at a dinner Tuesday evening at the home of Dr. and Mrs. George Bruce in Ashland. Those attending are asked to meet at the local church at 6:13 p.m. Bad Cross Chairman Guatta At Luncheon The 20 local chairmen of all Hed Cross services were lunch eon guests of Mrs. Alfred Car penter at her home on the Old Stage road Saturday, when they met to decide on a program for the annual meeting in July. Ivy street, were honored guests at a dinner last Tuesday evening when children of the couple liv ing here gathered at the family home. Mr. and Mrs. Lynch were mar ried at Holdredgc, Ncbr., July 3, 1885. Mr. Lynch was born near Browning, 111., Oct. 27, 1861, and Mrs. Lynch, who was Fannie M. Burton before her marriage, was born at Malta, 111., May 5, 1866. The couple came to Medford in 1926 and except for one year spent at Marshficld, have made their home here con tinuously since then. The eight living children of the couple are Elsie L. Lynch of San Diego; Thomas B. Lynch, Medford; Lura Leonard, Brook ings, Ore.; Mrs. Lawrence Duff, Medford; Cora and Veda Lynch living at home; and Mrs. Eve Henderson of Sitka, Alaska. George Icenhower Weds Eastern Girl A military wedding In the post chapel at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, on June 24 united in marriage Miss Helen Edna Rnine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clar ence B. Raine of Neptune, New Jersey, and Lt. George Arthur Icenhower, son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Icenhower of Ash land. The services were read at one o'clock in the afternoon by Chaplain Charles McLaughlin. The bride was graduated from Holy Spirit school at Asbury Park and the Neptune high school, class of 1942. She has been employed with the signal corps at Camp Evans. Lt. Icenhower was graduated from Ashland high school, and enlisted in the army in 1940. After attending signal corps school at Fort Monmouth, he was sent to officers' training school and received his commission tn July, 1942. He has been overseas in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan for nearly three years, returning to this country last month. Nile Sewing Group Meets Thursday Mrs. E. B. Price was hostess to a group of sixteen Medford women at the regular meeting of the sewing group of Zulelma Temple, Daughters of the Nile, at the Price home, 1006 Sunset avenue, Thursday. A covered dish luncheon was served in the yard at noon, and the women spent the afternoon knitting afghan squares for the Red Cross. The annual sewing project for the Crippled Children's Hospital maintained by the Shrine will be started soon. Garments for use by the patients are made by local clubs in each district. Meet ings arc held in Medford every two weeks. Stanleys VitUMedford En Route to Union Creek Lt. Commander and Mrs. H. A. Stanley were in Medford, Saturday, en route to their sum mer home at Union Creek where they plan to spend the next six weeks. Lt. Commander Stanley has been placed on the retired list of the United States navy, and the family now lives in San Francisco. A son of Lt. Commander and Mrs. Stanley, Lt. Harry C. Stan ley, recently returned from the South Pacific area, and is now attending gunnery ordnance school in Washington, Ladies' Mounted Troop Plans Business Meeting Membcri of the Ladles' i Mounted Troop, auxiliary of the Jackson County Sheriff's Posse, arc requested to attend a busi-' ncss meeting Tuesday at 7:30 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Harry Barneburg, 15 Chestnut street. Carolyn Edwards Installed Monday As Noble Grand Carolyn Edwards was installed noble grand of Olive Rebckah lodge at installation ceremonies conducted at the I.O.O.F. hall Monday evening, with Ina Hu- son, . district deputy president, presiding. Other officers installed for the current term were: Ina Huson, right supporter to noble grand; Marie Hansen, left supporter to noble grand; Jane McCarty, vice grand; Ethel Pease, right sup porter to vice grand; Besse Dyer, left supporter to vice grand; Maud Daughcrty, recording sec retary; Julia Gregory, treasurer; Atlanta Ncffsingcr, chaplain; Agnes French, warden; Lillian Peterson, conductor; Katherlne Fleming, flag bearer; Carrie Milnes, inside guard; and Flor ence Klatt, outside guard. Committees appointed for the present term were: finance, Ella Rogers, Edith Prescott, and Rose Young, and publicity, Minnie Bryant. The district deputy president was assisted by the following installing staff: Lona Bergman, grand marshal; Ethyl Weed,! grand warden; Lottie Howard grand treasurer; Caroline Lead-; ers, grand musician; Grace Ham lin, inside guard; and Rose Young, outside guard. Guards were Marjorie Pear son, Mary Cave, Fredene Doty Leona Gilinsky, Veva Wimcr and Virla Aldredgc, and flower girls were Georgia Hess and Iv Walden A patriotic drill was presented by several Rcbekahs in seating the flag bearer, and Mrs. Bessie Hubler gave a vocal solo, accom panied by Caroline Leaders Corsages were presented to all taking part in the installation. Following the installation, re freshments were served. Visitors present were Pearl Blanton of Springfield, Ore.; Elsie Milliard, Ventura, Calif.; and Nellie Reed, Rio-Del-Mar Park, Calif. The committee in charge of the meeting July 16 consists of Florence Klatt, chairman, assist ed by Edith Prescott, Nellie Nicholsen, Nida Oatman, Mar jorie Pearson, Edna Albern, Carl Pearson, and George Edwards Mary Cave and Maud Daughcrty are in charge of entertainment Fidelity Circle Luncheon Tuesday Next meeting of the Fidelity Circle of the First Methodist church will be held Tuesday July 10, at the home of Mrs. Max Cramer. Those attending arc asked to meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. for transportation. A silver ' luncheon will be served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. F. S. Brandon and Mrs. Frank Fanger, Jr. Devotional services will be In charge of Mrs Robert Rac. A study of "Paul's Letter to the Philippians will be started by Mrs. Robert Taylor, giving the background of the Apostle and the church at Philippi. Miss Virginia Hammond Leaves For California Miss Virginia Hammond left Medford Saturday for Laguna Beach, Calif., where she will visit her brother and his wife. Major and Mrs. Bruce Hammond for a month. Major Hammond is stationed at the marine base at Camp Pendleton near Laguna Beach. Local Woman Returns From Colorado Visit Mrs. Audrey Miles returned to Medford last week after a six weeks trip to La Junta, Colo., where she visited relatives, and returned by way of Canada and Washington. Arietta Tyrrell Weds Navy Man In Eugene Rites The wedding of Miss Arietta Tyrrell and Denver Bullock, United States Navy, was sol emnized June 27 in the Condon Chapel of the First Congrega tional church at Eugene, Oregon. The Rev. W. G. Nicholson read the double ring ceremony, and the bride was given in marriage by her father, Arden M. Tyrrell of Lake Creek, Ore. The bride wore a powder blue suit with white flower hat, and carried an orchid with white satin streamers. Her sister. Miss Mabel Tyrrell, as attendant. wore a gray-blue suit and yellow feather hat. Her corsage was gar denias and yellow rosebuds. Best man was Harry Alkire, U. S. Navy. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Robert T. Nelson of Eugene sang "Because" and "At Dawning" accompanied by Miss Helen Lucaas. A reception was held in the Wheeler room of the church fol lowing the service. Guests in eluded Miss Carrie Jo Bullock of San Pedro, Calif., sister of the groom, John Tyrrell of Lake Creek, Ore., brother of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Douglas of Eugene, Mr. and Mrs. Jules V. Napier of Klamath Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Alkire of Coos Bay and Miss Jemne Mote of Ashland. After a brief wedding trip, the couple will reside in Coos Bay where the groom is stationed at tho naval base. The bride attend ed Southern Oregon College of Education and Oregon State col lege. Before her marriage she taught in the commerce depart ment of Ashland high school and Coos Bay high school. Donald Price Family Living in Portland Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Belcher-DeWald Marriage Rites Held In Medford Miss Iris Belcher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Belcher of Tamalco, 111., and Pfc. Louis DeWald of Lampasses, Texas, were married Saturday, June 30 at the home of the bride's cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ballance, 525 Edward street. Dr. Louis C. Kirby read the service at eight o clock m the evening before a small group of relatives. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Louis DeWald, Sr. Attendants for the couple were Mrs. Robert Krieger, sister of the bride, and First Sgt. John Cabe, . stationed with Pfc. De Wald as a prisoner of war guard at Camp White. The bride wore a powder blue afternoon dress with white ac cessories, and a corsage of roses. Mrs. Krieger wore a rose colored dress with black accessories and white gardenias. At the reception following the ceremony, the bride first cut the wedding cake, and serving was completed by Mrs. Ballance from a table decorated with cala lilies and tapers. Following a short trip, the couple returned to Medford and ! are now making their home at 435 S. Central avenue. Mrs. DeWald came to Medford in February of last year, and is employed in the office of the Bear Creek Orchards. Out-ot-town guests present at the wedding were Miss Rettie Simcox of Illinois, and Miss Bob bie Jean Schrader of Texas, a cousin of the groom. Joint Meeting Held In Ashland Mother Bickerdyke Tent No. 13, Daughters of Union Veterans of Ashland was hostess to Elta Deuel Hubbs .Tent No. 11 of Medford at its June meeting in the Episcopal parish .house in Ashland June 27. A covered dish luncheon was served at two o'clock to about 40 members of the two tents. A memorial service honoring deceased members was present ed by the Ashland group. Ob jects and aims of the organiza tion were given by Miss Ora Cox of Medford, past national presi dent of the organization, and Dr. Susie Standard, state depart ment chaplain, reported on the recent convention at Coos Bay. Attending from Medford were Ora Cox, Dr. Susie Standard, Katherine Wait, Britta Williams, Grace Guyer, Mabel Carr, Lu cille Scheffel, Nellie Ferris, Katherine Rowley, Maybelle Klemm, and Maude Daugherty. V.-O . vx June Weybright Married June 25 To Edward Tarp Valley friends of Miss June Weybright will be interested to learn of her marriage June 25 to Edward Tarp of Bremerton, Wash. The service was read at an early morning ceremony in the northern city, and the couple was attended by the bride's fath er, Frank Weybright, and Mr. and Mrs. William Laurenson. For her wedding. Miss Wey bright wore a pale blue suit with white accessories. The bride Is a graduate of Ash land high school and Southern Oregon College of Education. She taught in the grade school at Anderson Creek for one year and at Climax two years before leaving the valley for Washing ton. For the past two years she has taught in the Bremerton schools. Mr. Tarp Is employed in the Bremerton shipyards. Following a brief wedding trip around Puget Sound, Mr. and Mrs. Tarp returned to Bremer ton. Mrs. Tarp is a niece of Mrs. C. C. Harper of Talent.
