POSTAL PAY BILL
Washington. July 8 U.R
Present Truman today signed
legislation granting an average
basic salary increase of $400 a
year to the 300,000 postal em
ployes.
It is the first basic pay raise
the postal employees have had
since 1925. The increases gen
erally are in line with the "lit
tle steel" formula limiting war
time wage increases.
The act will raise the total
basic pay-roll for postal work
ers by about $150,000,000 a year
The postal employees received
a temporary war-time increase
of $300 a year each, but this tem
porary raise now will be can
celled. The new rates are retro
active to July 1.
