Ira u. iuman, who has been with tho 8th bombing command in England for the past 14 months, nas arrived at Bradley Field, Conn., and expects to be home on furlough soon, according to word received here. Sgt. Luman entered the service May 17, 1941, and has not had a furlough since that time. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Luman of Route 4. His wife, Virginia, is at present with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Stout of 1130 West 9th street. Reynolds Home Pfc. Lee Reynolds is now in Medford on a 90-day furlough from McCall hospital at Walla Walla, Wash., and is visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Rey nolds of 38 N. Peach street. Reynolds has had 18 months of overseas service, and was wound ed In January. An older son of Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds, Bob Rey nolds, storekeeper second class In the navy, recently wrote that he had seen Billy Calvert, a Med ford man now serving as metal smith first class at Pearl Harbor. Inspects Valley Kent Weav er of Concord, Calif., director in the Palomino Horse Breeders as-1 soclation of America, who was in Medford last week-end to Judge the horse show was a guest Saturday morning at Snowy Butte ranch at Central Point. Sunday Mr. Weaver, ac companied by John Cupp and C. A. McCroff, drove to Grants Pass where he inspected several Palomino horses and investigat ed sites in the valley. Mr. Weaver Indicated that he is seek ing a ranch here suitable for horse breeding, and may move to the valley. In City James M. Mulllns, former principal of Medford junior high school, passed through the city early this week and called at the office of the city school superintendent. Mul llns, who was accompanying his wife to Portland, will continue to the east. Swimming Party Officers, their wives, and Outpost host esses are invited to attend the Outpost swimming party Sun day afternoon. Where can you SHOW GROUNDS IS NEW CEILING Washington, July 5 (U.R) The government spent a record $100,030,000,000 during the fis cal year' 1945 just closed, the treasury's official statement on spending activities for the year disclosed today. The statement also disclosed new records in several depart ments. The treasury, as a result of the seventh war loan drive, the largest of all time, wound up the year with a record cash balance of nearly $25,000,000,000. Net receipts in the fiscal year 1945 reached an all time high of $46,457,000,000, 'an increase of $2,308,000,000 over the previous fiscal year. Total budgetary expenditures were $6,661,000,000 higher than in the 1944 fiscal year. The de ficit, also reaching a new high amounted to $53,948,000,000, an increase of $4,353,000,000.
