COMMUNICATIONS Ltten to the Editor mnst near the name end address ol the writer although the use or a pen-name or IntllaU lor publication t! permis ilble. the Mall Tribune reiervei the rlsht to edll all letter! wltj i a view to clarity and condensation "II Stinksl" To the editor: Well, all you housewives, would-be canners of fruit and such little by little it Js leaking out. Through various channels, we "hear the reasons for our canning sugar allotments being cut and cut and cut again. Thanks to our news announc ers, a slip of the tongue (maybe) we are getting the lowdown. Some thirty million pounds of sugar in the east, supposedly allotted for jams and Jell for our fighting men, diverted to a bev erage concern. A holiday de clared for the liquor industry right at the time we housewives are in crying need for canning sugar. How many million pounds for these buzzards. Heaven knows, while they increase the liquor flow so the government may have the big tax output on purchases. There's no big tax coming in Cn the sugar you use, ladies, in trying to increase your family's food supply now when fruit Is cn the market. Tons of sugar going to Spain tiow, a country who consistently has catered to the Nazi regime. We made a bargain. I say we. But, WE didn't know anything bout it when the big shots made this bargain. The bargain? According to our farm front re porter on KMED our ready bar gainers agreed to let Spain have this sugar providing she cut off military supplies to Germany. Why, we ask, was it necessary to make a bargain with Nazi sympathizers, when uncondition al surrender was our goal? We have heard also just a For better ICED COFFEE use ice cubes... . ...made from regular strength MJ-B (instead of water) ...remember, too. that you can't make little report of an upstate grocer, the little man. A truck load of sugar drove by, left two sacks of sugar for the. grocer, the rest of the load to a brewery. In a town I know well in Idaho a new million dollar sugar factory has stood idle ever since it was built two years ago. Sugar beet farmers there plowed under their crops. Enough sugar beets to keep our America in sugar can be raised in that one state alone. Yes folks, it stinks, this situation. It's only a part of what you're going to hear before this food situation is cleared up. carma Mccarty, Trail, Oregon CARD OP THANKS lh.iV """"J1 .our '"end! for oUrr..Ptl';L"ni.-k.,nd"?M ."""" beauuiui-flower.
