Salem, Ore., June 19 (U.R) Weekly unemployment compen sation allowances in Oregon were increased 20 per cent, be ginning this week, the Compen sation Commission said today. Maximum yearly benefits may go up from 30 to 50 per cent, as a result of action taken by the 1945 legislature in raising the payments and limitations. The waiting period for each claimant before he can collect goes from two to one, A total of 3,500 workers have filed unemployment claims since the first of the year, the com mission said. Of these, 2,250 have drawn compensation. Under the new law benefits are based on a sliding scale, run ning from $10 to $18 weekly. The limit which may be received in one year Is $360. Other changes made by the legislature include longer pe riods of disqualification for fraud, and requirement of later earnings by persons before they may collect compensation for un employment resulting from vol untary quitting, discharge or failure to apply for work.
