I would like to know what you would recommend. We found that article in the National Geographic Magazine that you referred to . . . Nov., '38. number, article by W Robert Foran describing con dition of the teeth of inhabi tants of Tristan da Cunha) . . . but we can see no connec tion between those people and us. Their diet most likely makes up for the lack of brushing their teeth. Our seventh grade Hygiene" class would like a reply as soon as possible. Yours truly, ". Charles Henry James Get us call it) First, Charles, there must be excellent teachers in your scnoot or you are an exceptional pupil a student, in fact. It takes more than attending school to make a student, and more than toeing a student to make a scholar. ' When you infer that the diet of the inhabitants oi the lonely South Atlantic isle of Tristan da Cunha makes up for the absence nf toothbrushes from their way of life, you hit the nail on the head, Charles. To drive it home let me cite the facts again. Examination of the teeth of the natives by a den tist from H.M.S. Carlisle in 19-J-i showed that their teeth were practically perfect. Among lao persons ranging in age from childhood to 92 years, the den tist found 131 entirely free from dental decay. It would be tiara in find 131 adults in the United States and Canada who are free frnm dental decay. There is nom ine "primitive" or out ot me question for Americans, in the diet nf these rjeorjie on lrisiau da Cunha. They live on potatoes, some whole cereals (when sup- niv shins arrive), fish, crayiisn, sea birds in season, eggs, only rarplv have meat. Tomorrow Charles, I'll try to answer your question explicitly.
