Davidson entertain ed at a bridge-luncheon last : week, the affair being given Thursday afternoon at her home, 206 South Orange street. Prizes for high scores at bridge went to Mrs. R. W. Sleeter, Jr., Miss Margaret Clegg, Mrs. Kenneth Hiatt and Mrs. Robert E. Gillas pie. Eighteen guests were present. New Scholarship Given First Time By Oregon Society - Adding to the projects and awards already sponsored by the Oregon chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and its various local branches, the society last week for the first time awarded the Lucy Ann Mil ler memorial scholarship The award went to Miss Marjorie Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A new project of the national society which is coming in for much recognition is that of pro viding flower and vegetable seeds for army and navy hos pital gardens. A national release states that these "war gardens" originally intended to aid con valescent wounded and sick serv ice men on lonely tropical islands in the Pacific, are now flourishing around many of the general army hospitals through out the country and in other parts of the world. Army offi cials declared the gardens are a great lift to the morale of the patients who care for them and Mrs. Julius Y. Talmadge, na tional president, urges all mem bers to actively support the proj ect. Party Given For Shirley Burleson Phoenix Shirley Burleson celebrated her 14th birthday an niversary with a party at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Otto Caster, Phoenix, May 28. Games were played during the afternoon after which refresh ments, including the traditional birthday cake, were served. Guests were Virginia Gibbons, Dorothy Hawkins, Maxlne Bur sing, Mildred Shults, Marlene Morse and the guest of honor, Shirley Burleson. Shirley is the daughter of Mrs. Marjorie Brooks of Phoenix. 4 I Rices Leave Thursday For Horn In New York Mrs. Gala Rice and children Jeft Thursday evening for their home at Mineola, Long Island. New York. The Rice family have resided In Medford for the past few years at 719 West 11th street, to be with Capt. Rice, who is stationed at Camp White. Teachers Group Has Installation For New Officers New officers were installed at the annual luncheon meeting of Delta Kappa Gamma held re cently at the Girls' Community club. Miss Daphne Matthews was installed president; Flor ence Allen, first vice president; Lynette Quinlan, second vice president; Madge Mitchell, cor responding secretary; Ruth Riek erson, recording secretary and Ora Cox, parliamentarian. Installation was conducted by Miss Delie Whisenant, retiring president, and her officers. After installation Miss Matthews presented Jennie Calhoun who gave a brief review of the'eon stitution of the organization, a national teachers' group, and re cited the purposes, for which it was established. In charge of the pleasant af fair were Miss Princess Egbert, Mrs. Ruth MacCallister, Jennie Calhoun, Miss Reid, Miss Nich olson, Miss Frohreich and Mrs. Walter Schuler. Mrs. Galbreaith Is Honored Guest At Shower Party Mrs. Jack Six entertained Fri day evening at a shower party which honored Mrs. Don Gal breaith. The affair was given at the home of Mrs. John Perl, Route 1. Dessert was served at 8:30 o'clock and was followed by cards and presentation of Mrs. Galbreaith s gifts. At cards prizes were won by Mrs. Robert Root and Miss Kay Conroy. Fifteen of Mrs. Galbreaith's close friends were invited to the affair. STORE Medford Women Named Officers Mrs. Clara Fisher of the Med ford Neighbors of Woodcraft was elected district past guard ian neighbor at a meeting of the order held last week-end in Eu gene. Mrs. Harriet Watson, also of the Medford order, was elect ed district captain of guards. Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Azalea Andrews and Mrs. Carrie Mllnes attended the sessions as representatives of the Medford lodge. Mrs. Milnes is district in ner sentinel. The 1947 district meeting will be held in Medford, with Med ford, Ashland and Phoenix cir cles as joint hostesses. Lieutenant and Wife Are Visitors in City Lt. and Mrs. W. C. Purdin have arrived in Medford from Victorvllle, Calif., and are guests at the home of Lt. Purdln's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Purdin, 335 Fairmont street, Lt. Purdin is leaving June 8 to return to the army air base at Victorville where he is currently stationed with the west coast training com mand, and Mrs. Purdin is re maining here with her parents-in-law. Lt. and Mrs. Purdin were mar ried last August, Mrs. Purdin be ing the former Marjorie Scott of Aruba, Curacao, and a student at the University of Arkanas at the time of her marriage to the officer, Lt. Purdin served several months overseas with the Fif teenth air force and has been awarded the air medal, silver star and purple heart medals. Garden Club Plans Installation For Meeting Thursday Installation of officers will be held at the June meeting of the Medford Garden club planned for Thursday at the Girls' Com munity club. This will take place at the afternoon session, which begins at 2:30 o'clock, and the program also calls for annual re ports and awards for bird stories submitted by various members. At a morning session at 10:30 rose corsages will be made. Members may bring corsage ma terial, or purchase it at the meet ing, and all attending are to bring roses. Those who wish may bring a paper sack lunch and remain during the, noon hour. Hostesses for the meeting will be Mrs. L. L. Rentz, Mrs. L. P. Older, Mrs. Fred Rchling, Miss Jane Snedlcor and Mrs. L. E. Williams. 1 , Women's Association v To Hold Annual Picnle Plans for the annual picnic meeting have been completed by the Women's Association of the Medford Presbyterian church. The affair will be Tues day, June 5, at the home of Mrs. John Perl, Coleman Creek Road, at 1 o'clock. Those attending are to bring a covered dish for the picnic menu and service. Mrs. Eve Prentice's accordion troopers will play and following the picnic luncheon a business meeting will be held. Parents In Medford To Attend Graduation Lt. Col. and Mrs. E. F. Bul lock will leave Medford today for Vancouver Barracks after having been here to attend graduation services at senior high school Thursday night. Their son, John, was a member. of the class and also served as president of the student body during the year. He will leave soon to report in Chicago for radar training with the navy. The Bullocks were guests of Lt. Col. and Mrs. John W. Hors ley while in Medford. Visitors From Dakota Leave Saturday Night Dr. and Mrs. E. Bloedau and small son, Davcn, of Bowman, N. D left Saturday night for their home after spending two weeks here with Mrs. Bloedau's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Pol lock, 42 Hawthorne street. Also here last week was the Pol lock's eldest son, Doyan Pollock of Salt Lake City.
