Utz, 801 Crater Lake avenue, has been elected presi dent of Phi Chi Theta, women's national business honorary at the University of Oregon, a news release from the school states. , Sell Home Mr. and Mrs. Claude Scott of Gold Hill have sold their home to Mr. and Mrs, Ralph Bowden of Tolo. The Bowdens have sold their ranch to a buyer from Chicago and are moving to Gold Hill this week and the Scotts are building a new home in Gold Hill. The Scott sale was made through Vivian Norman- Barto, Black well Hill realty broker who re ports nine recent sales. 4 To Vacation The Rev. W. In Australia TVS Ernest Smith, son of Mrs. Charles Pitts, 707V4 West 11th street, is now in Australia, a recent letter to his mother states. Cpl. Smith was in the European theater of operations recently and was transferred to Australia. To Portland Mrs. Dick Baize, 41 Hawthorne street, left for Portland Tuesday evening where she will undergo major surgery at the Portland clinic. It is not known when she will be able to return to Medford. Her husband is traffic officer with the city po lice force. Pledged Miss Anne Scripters daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl D. Scripter, 60 Rose avenue, was one of 20 University of Oregon women pladged by Phi Theta Upsilon, junior women's service honorary at the school, last week, a release from the univer sity states. - In Hospital George R. Moore of 511 Bessie street is a patient in Community Hospital and is satisfactorily convalescing from an operation performed May 12, Mrs. Moore states. He will be, in the hospital for another week. Mr. Moore was operating a bulb farm near Brookings until the time of his illness. Need Shrubs Officers from the Medford army air base today made a plea for shrubs to be used in landscaping the air base grounds. Anyone having shrubs or small trees which they will donate for this purpose is asked to notify Sgt. Comer, operations department at the base, and men from the base will remove the plants. ' Visitors Here Guests this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Sandcn, 304 South Central avenue, are their son, Preston J. Card, and his fiancee, Miss Maude Eberle of New York City. Also here are Roger E. Card of the Seabees and Mrs. Seth Waters of Klamath Falls. Miss Eberle is publicity director for the Spool Cotton company of i New York, and Preston Card, metalsmith first class in the navy, is assigned to shore duty at New Orleans. La. The visitors will leave Sunday. . Here .For Graduation Miss Afton Guches and Miss Barbara Maddox arrived in Medford this morning from Vancouver, Wash., I to attend high school graduation ; ceremonies this evening and to1 receive their diplomas. Both 1 young women completed their high school courses at mid-term I and in March enrolled in the1 United States Cadet Nursing1 corps and began training at St. i Joseph's hospital, Vancouver. Albert Razum is visiting friends in the valley. He is on furlough from the army base at Santa Monica, Calif. Learn John S. Wood, S2c in the Seabees, left Tuesday for Camp Parks, Calif., after spend ing a five-day leaves with his wife and small daughter, Carol Jean, at the family home, 54 Rose avenue. Examiner Coming A travel ing examiner of operators and chauffeurs will be at the KP hall Friday and Saturday from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. All those wish ing permits or licenses to, drive cars are asked to get in touch with the examiner during these hours. Promoted Merton W. LeRoy has been promotad from flight officer to second lieutenant, in formation received by his moth er, Mrs. Jack Crump, 823 East Ninth street, states. Lt. LeRoy, in England and stationed at a bomber station of the Eighth AAF, was recently presented an air medal for his service as bom bardier of a Flying Fortress. His brother, Lt. Maiden LeRoy, fighter pilot, is now stationed in the Philippine Islands. Board To Meet Chamber of Commerce board members will hold a luncheon meeting at the Chamber of Commerce building Friday noon.
