OBSERVANCE OF
FEATURE PARADE
Final plans will be completed
early next week for the annual
observance of Memorial Day In
Medford. The observance pro
gram begins today with the an-
nual memorial church service at
St. Mark's Episcopal church at
11a. m., and the traditional par
ade and program will be given
Wednesday. Plans are in charge
of Col. W. H. Paine, Victor Robb,
commander of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars and Harry A.
Young, commander of the Amer
ican Legion.
The parade Is to form at the
city park at 10 a. m and will
proceed to the Bear Creek
bridge where a service to honor
navy dead will be held. In the
line of march will be represen
tatives of the various civic and
veteran organizations of the city
and men of the 752nd Military
Police battalion, Camp White,
commanded by Lt. Col. William
M. Vance.
At the bridge Girl Scouts will
scatter flowers on the waters of
Bear Creek, a member of the
Daughters of Union Veterans
will give a memorial reading and
the parade will return to the
park.
After disbanding of the Darade
the traditional program will be
held in the park, with opening
selections by the high school
band. Daughters of Union Vet
erans will read the orders of the
day and Lincoln's "Gettysburg
Address" by Bill Hedrick. The
ceremony of the decoration of
the chairs in honor of the dead
will follow, with about 20 groups
taking part and an address and
band music will terminate the
program. Prayers will be of
fered by the Rev. George Coul
ter, both at the bridge anfi at the
park service.
From Camp White It was stat
ed that in addition to participat
ing in the parade here, men from
the camp will also participate in
celebrations at Central Point and
Ashland. Attending these will be
personnel from lieadquarters of
the 1913 SCU at the camp.
GIVE SO CE TALK
Rex Putnam, state superinten
dent of public instruction, will
be principal speaker at the nine
teenth annual commencement
exercises to be held at the South
ern Oregon College of Education
Friday afternoon, June 1. The
state board of higher education
will be represented by R. C.
Groesbeck of Klamath Falls.
