LOCAL and PERSONAL Daughter To Meet Daught ers of Union Veterans are urged to attend an important business meeting tonight at the armory at 8 p. m. Leave For South Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Newland, 842 East Main street, left today for San Francisco, Calif. They expect to return at the end of a 10-day visit in the city. To Los Angeles Mrs. Elsie Narregan, 621 East Main street, will leave by plane Sunday for Los Angeles, Calif., where she will spend a week buying wear ing apparel for Mann's store. Picnic Planned A community picnic will be held at the Oak Grove school Sunday, starting at 10:30. a. m. Those attending re asked to bring a basket lunch. Coffee will be furnished. Permit Issued Col. W. C. Weeks, 138 Willamette avenue, received a permit from the of fice of the city superintendent's office yesterday to erect an ad dition to a residence at a cost of $800. Announce Meeting A special meeting of the auxiliary to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 2093, will be held Sunday at 1:30 p. m. at the hall, 217 West Main street, it was an nounced today. There will be balloting and initiation of candi dates. . Change Festival Hour Com mittees in charge of the Town send club carnival and festival to be held tonight at the K. of P. hall stated this morning that the affair will open at 6:30 p. m. rather than at 8 o'clock as an nounced yesterday. Food will be served from a number of booths and later there will be entertain ment and amusement features in the traditional carnival style. There will also be music for dan cing. The general public is in vited to attend. Make Announcement Offi cers of the Christian Endeavor society of the First Presbyterian church announced this morning that if the weather Is not fair this evening, the weiner roast will be held at the church in stead of outdoors. The affair is planned for 6:30 p. m. Promoted; Capt. Charles Ord Reed has been promoted to the rank of major according to word received by friends recently. The officer is stationed at Camp McQualde, Calif., and has been in service since the National Guard reported for active duty. The captain's family is with him at Camp McQualde. Promoted Rufus Younger, stationed in the Pacific area with a Seabee special battalion, has been promoted to electrician's mate first class, according to in formation received by relatives. Younger has been overseas for 27 months. His wife and daugh ter, Ann, reside on the Jackson ville Highway and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Younger, at 611 West Eighth street Corps To Meet Capt. Robert Sleeter will speak at a meeting of the Red Cross Nurses Aide corps tonight at the Outpost at 8 p. m. Capt. Sleeter, who spent about three years in the South Pacific with the army medical corps, will speak on some phases of the psychology of the return ing veteran. Any member of the medical profession Is welcome to attend, corps officers state.. Train Guards District fire guards of the Rogue River Na tional Forest service are attend ing a training school at Union Creek today and Saturday. Karl Janouch, supervisor; R. L. Mer cer, assistant supervisor, and M. L. Tedrow, fire chief, are con ducting the meeting. The an nual training school for guards and lookouts will begin. Fire Calls Firemen answered a call yesterday to extinguish a grass fire at the corner of River side avenue and Alice street. No damage was reported. ' An other run was made to Littrell Parts company today to extin guish a fire in an electric motor. According to firemen, the motor was damaged considerably. Sgt. Jones participated in the Sicilian, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno and the German campaigns. After being wounded in action in Holland he was returned to the United States. His wife resides at the home address and his father, Joseph P. Jones, will return to Medford soon from Salem, Ore. Soldier Buys War Bonds For Campaign Harvard Army Air Field, Neb., (U.R) M'Sgt. James G. Hodys not only helps to pass the ammunition, but he also lays down a good sum of money an nually to buy it. The sergeant, who enlisted 20 years before Pearl Harbor, has bought $2.( 00 of war bonds each year for four years. The 42-year-old soldier said he expects to be sent overseas and he buys bonds to back his own cam paign.
