Minister Arrives The Rev and Mrs. George Coulter and two children arrived in Medford today from Stockton, Calif., and are taking up residence at 008 North Central avenue. The Rev. Coulter will be pastor of the Medford Church of the Nazarene and will have charge of his first services Sunday. Visiting Mother Hal Adams, AMM2-C, is visiting his mother, Mrs. Effie Adams, 420 South Grape street, on 80-day leave from the naval air corps. Adams, now stationed at Whidby Island Washington, has been overseas In the Aleutian Islands for the past ten months and has complet ed 60 missions over the Kurile Islands. Corporal Here Cpl. Johnnie Bilderback arrived in Medford yesterday to visit his sister, Mrs. Earl Herendeen, 526 Haven St., and his brother, Leroy Bilder back, 515 South Grape street, Cpl.'Bilderback returned recent ly from three years service In the South Pacific and will report back to Santa Ana, Calif., at tne end of a 30-day furlough. Correction Through an er ror the name of Pfc. Warren R. McManus, whose death the War department has announced, was incorrectly spelled in the notice of his death. Pfc McManus died In Germany after serving overseas 29 months with the regimental headquarters of the Seventh Infantry division. He was a brother of Mn. Roy J Holbrook, Route 4. Another brother, T. Sgt. Wilfred C. Mc Manus, Is serving with the Air Corps at Dyersburg, Tenn. Permits Issued Three build' lng permits were issued yester- day from the office of the city superintendent. I. S. Hatfield. 1108 West 4th street, received a permit for general repair to a residence at cost of $200. Rob ert Padgett 80 Quince street, was Issued a permit to reshingle at a cost of $100 and F. J. Runtz. 315 East Main street, received a permit to Install a new celling in a business building, cost to be $200. A fourth permit was issued today to C. A. Carrlco, 129 West Uth street, to erect an addition to a garage at a cost of $100. Attend Meeting County Com missioners A. E. Powell and Wil liam Perry and Paul Rynnlng, county engineer, are in Roseburg today to attend a district meet ing of county commissioners and judges. Coos, Curry. Douglas, Josephine and Jackson counties are in the district. The meetings are held to discuss problems of mutual interest to the officials. - Soldier In States T-Sgt. Del- mar L. Field, Marine veteran who is coming to Med ford next Monday with the Leatherneck Seventh War Loan entertainment troupe, won the Silver Star medal for heroism on the island of Saipan, a dis patch from the Marine barracks at KSamath Falls states. The Marine band, fast becoming famous in Oregon, is to play twice in Medford, plans having been made for a street concert at 4:30 p. m. and for an evening appearance at the Holly theater. Sgt. Field ''worked his way up to a hero" the story relates. He went into the Saipan inva sion as a corporal In charge of one machine gun. As casualties began to mount In his unit, he gradually assumed more and more responsibility until he was in command of the platoon's six guns and received a spot promotion to sergeant. His out fit once stood off an attack by Japanese Imperial Marines, their best fighting troops, ana tne zi year old Leatherneck emerged from the battle in charge of the whole platoon. For tnis he was promoted and recommended for the Silver Star. Fields, whose home Is In Ham mond, Ind., spent two years in the Pacific and also fought at Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Tinian He was wounded on Saipan but was never out of action. The Marine troupe is being brought to Medford Jointly by the Medford Elks lodge and the County War Finance committee. German Prisoners Donate Funds To Welfare Agencies Camp White, Ore., May 24- German prisoners of war at this post have donated $1400 volun tarily to American and Interna tional welfare agencies, Lt. Col Lou J. Farber, prisoner of war camp commander, announced today. Of this amount, $400 was car- marked for the American Red Cross, which serves American prisoners of war only. The re maining thousand dollars was divided equally between the In ternational Red Cross and the Young Men'i Christian Associa tion. t Before making their contribu tions, the prisoners were in formed they could donate to the International Red Cross Commit tee, the American Red Cross or the War Prisoners' Aid of the Young Men's Christian Associa tion, Col. Farber stated. All of the money was contrib uted from prisoners' savings ac cumulated during their employ ment on farms and in govern ment projects In this vicinity. Prisoners of war are paid 80 cents a day under the terms of the Geneva conference. NEW HOMES AUTHORIZED Washington, May 24. Merkel, county health officer; Mrs. Blanche Frlsbie, Miss Helen Parish and Miss Mary Ellen Bell, public health nurses; Miss Josephine Koppes, secretary, and Walter Sutherland, sanitarian. Lt. Lawrence Fick Promoted Captain First Lt Lawrence R. Fick, serving with the Eighth air force In England, was promoted to the rank of captain on May 2, ac cording to information received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Fick of Jacksonville Capt. Fick la a navigator on a B-24 bombing plane and made 29 bombing missions over Ger many and occupied Europe. He was commissioned in April of 1944 and has been overseas since July of last year. Capt.
