Thunder. May U, 1948 MEDfOHD MAIL THIBUWB 4rTT PIPELINES TOOK DRIVERS IN JUNE FUEL TO ALLIES SECRET CHANNEL Washington, May 24. (U.R) That extra gasoline motorists were promised after V-E day will come to them in June. But it won't be enough to do much extra joyriding. "A" gasoline rations will be increased only about a gallon a week. "B" rations will be in creased, but only if card holders can demonstrate increased need to their local ration boards. Announcement ot the Increase was made Jointly by Petroleum Administrator Harold L. Ickes and the office of price adminis . tratlon. Ickes said he took "great satisfaction" in giving civilians more gasoline for the first time since rationing began in July, 1941. Throughout the United States, "A" rations will be increased 50 per cent on June 22 when A-16 coupons become valid. This means the values of each of the , new coupons will go up from four to six gallons. Six coupons are validated at a time, all good for three months. "B" rations will be increased a little earlier on June 11 by varying degrees throughout the country, bringing them every where up to a new countrywide ceiling allotment of 650 miles a month. Rations in the east will go up 100 per cent from 325 to 650 miles a month; in the mid west they will increase from 475 to 650 miles a month; and in the far west they'll go up from 400 to 650 miles a month. The six-man. six-woman Jury deliberated for four hours and 15 minutes before agreeing that Duncan was guilty of plunging his hunting knife through Mrs. Vivell's heart after they had several drinks in his apartment last Feb. 6. The 46-year-old army officer, who admitted a long illicit rela tionship with the woman, who was 10 years younger than he, wept as the Jury's verdict was read. London. May 23 (U.F9 A series of 20 pipelines under the English channel carried more than 1,000,000 gallons of fuel oil a day to the allied armies in Europe after D-Day. The pipeline terminals at Cherbourg and Boulogne were connected with Britain's thoa sand mile line and enabled a con' tinuous flow of fuel into Europe from tankers discharging it at British ports. Censorship permitted the an- nouncement of the project yes terday. Giant drums, each of them 80 feet long and more than 50 feet in diameter, floated the three Inch cable from the pipeline across the channel. At the two ports in France, pumping facilities kept the fuel flowing up to the front as the allied armies advanced.
