L AI DINNER MEET The annual conference of the Medford Methodist Church was held Wednesday evening in the church with 175 people attend ing a covered dish dinner. Fol lowing the dinner Miss Marjorie Bloomingcamp and Miss Bernice Bloomingcamp sang a duct. Miss Thelma Loughary gave a reading and Miss Helen Pierce sang two numbers. Dr. E. J. Aschenbren ner, of Grants Pass, presided. Highlights of the occasion as reported by the pastor. Dr. Louis C. Kirby, were the wel coming of new members and re ports of department heads, show ing an outstanding year In the church. Dr. Kirby's report showed that 105 people united with the church during the current year, making a total present member ship of 902. He also reported the baptism of 40 persons. Church treasurer, Miss Annie Bateman, reported all local and denominational items paid in full and f 8,000 given to missions, the largest amount ever given by the church. Other reports showed an In crease in attendance of 100 in the church school with an en rollment of 471 pupils. Clarence Meeker for the trustees, report- j ed over $800 spent for renairs and improvements. The Worn-, an's Society of Christian Service through its president Mrs.'Harry Meyers, reported a membershi of 180 and receipts of $1700. Mrs. Beulah Faber said mem- i bership of the Wcsleyan Service j Guild was the largest it had ever j been and $250 had been given to j local and Missionary causes. The pastor closed the service by presenting a well planned : program for next year. i MAX SCHMELING SAID ARRESTED IN HAMBURG London, May 18 (U.R) An Exchange Telegraph dispatch from Hamburg said Max Schmel ing, former heavyweight boxing champion, was found there to day. An Exchange Telegraph cor respondent said Schmeling was arrested on the Hamburg water front by two military policemen of the 53rd Welsh division.
