He will re port at San Francisco for further assignment upon expiration of his 30-day leave. Collision Cars operated by William A. Barker, 2430 Hill crest road, and Harold Halaas, 319 South Peach, collided on Sixth street, Sunday, an accident report states. Damage estimated at $50 was caused to Barker's auto, the report sa;d. " ( MarKade To Close Begin ning today, the MarKade, recre ation center for servicemen, will be closed about two weeks for repairs and redecorating, it was stated today. Announcement of the re-opening date will be pub lished for the benefit of host esses and servicemen. . Adair Leaves Charles S. Adair, owner of the M. M, De partment store, left Sunday for Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City and other eastern cities where he will order merchandise. He will be absent about a month and will return by way of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Monteith Home Pfc. Darrel L. Monteith, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Monteith, is in Medford for 15 days from Miami, Fla. Monteith is with the plans and training department of the air corps and has been in the army since November, 1943. He is visiting at the family home, 531 Pearl street. Building Permits Rogue River Valley Canning company, 13th and South Front streets, received a . permit yesterday from the office of the city super intendent to repair floors at a cost of $2000. Leo Williams, 1003 Reddy avenue, was issued a permit to reshingle a residence at a cost of $150. Discharged William Meier, formerly a private in the infan try, received an honorable dis charge May 8, at the Hoff gen eral hospital, Santa Barbara, Calif. Meier entered the army April, 1942, through Jackson county draft board No. 2. He was in the New Guinea cam paign and served two years overseas. Mother Here Mrs. W. A. Del zell of Portland arrived in Med ford last week to spend several days with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Newbury, 7 Eastwood Drive. Mrs. Delzell has visited here many times and has many friends in the city. She came to Medford from Klamath Falls where she visited with relatives. . To Hold Clinic A clinic for children living in the Roosevelt school district who expect to start school next September for the first time will be held at the school gymnasium Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. il was. stated today at the office of the city school superintendent. Parents wishing to have their children examined by a physician may take them to the clinic, it was stated. Servicemen Home Sgt. Roy L. Huson, who arrived in Med ford iast week to spend Mother's Day with his mother, Mrs. Ina Huson, Lozier Lane, is leaving Wednesday evening to return to his post in Seattle. Sgt. Huson was stationed in the South Pa cific for many months and this was the first Mother's Day in four years that he had been at home. His twin brother, Cpl. Ray Huson, is now with the Tenth Army on Okinawa. Mrs. Huson's grandson, Richard Phil lips, Flc, is in the valley to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. The session is set for 2 p.m. Fredenburg Home James Fredenburg, CM3c, is spending a 30-day leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Fredenburg of the Jacksonville highway. Fredenburg has been in the South Pacific with the Seabees for the past two years and his unit received a commen dation for their work in 'main tenance and salvage in recent months. Luce New York, May 15 (U.R) Rep, Clare Boothe Luce, R., Conn., who recently returned from a tour of European battle fronts, said today that she be lieved the Pacific war "may be over sooner than people think, probably within a year." REGISTRATION FOR GIRL SCOUT CAMP IS URGED Girls planning to attend the annual Girl Scout day camp this summer were urged today to register at once. Delayed reg istration complicates the plan ning of supplies and programs, Girl Scout leaders state. Day camp will open June 18 and continue through June 29. The registration fee is 50 cents when paid in advance or 25 cents per day. It is stated that the Red Cross swimming classes and the day camp program will be coordinated so that girls may attend both. Central Point Central Point, May 15. Miss Mary Taylor was married to Private Wm. A. Moody at Santa Barbara, Calif., May 3. The cere mony was performed at the home of the minister, Joseph Sanders, after which a beautiful ly decorated wedding cake was served. They will make their home at Santa Barbara while Private Moody is stationed there. Mary has been attending the San Jose Bible College the last few months. A reception was given recent ly at willow springs in nui of Wayne Vincent, Henry Wael ty, Perry and Marcell Paudios, and Cleo and Everett Young who are home on furlough. TAKEN BY DEATH Mrs. Catherine Berrang, 76, a resident of Rural Route 4, Med ford for 21 years, passed away at a local hospital early Tues day. Mrs. Berrang wag born in Girardville, Penn., on June 11, 1868. On February 4, 1886 she was married to Jacob C. Berrang at Ashland, Penn. Mr. and Mrs. Berrang crossed the country in a covered wagon drawn by ox team, starting their journey in Connecticut In 1920. It took three years, four months and 18 days. Remains of the old wagon still stand near Phoenix and may be seen from the Pacific highway. Mrs. Berrang leaves to mourn her passing her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Florence Siegel, of Medford, and one son, Charles Berrang, of New York, N. Y., also one. grandchild. Funeral services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church Thursday at 9 a.m., the Rev. Father Hamilton officiat ing. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at the Perl Funeral Home Wednesday at 8 p.m. In terment will be in. Siskiyou Memorial Park. T The county Jail was cleared last week of all but one prisoner, a Mrs. Rees serving 60 days for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the sheriff's office re ports. . Jack Sparks, 19, and Jack Pemberton, 18, each charged with larceny of an auto they aft erwards wrecked in the Siski yous, were sentenced last week by Circuit Judge H. K. Hanna, on pleas of guilty. Sparks was sentenced to 18 months and Pem berton to a year in state prison, both terms indeterminate. They were taken to Salem over the week-end. Margery Sparks was directed by the .court to return to her home and child. Rosemary Ileen Oleman, 16, was turned over to juvenile authorities. The girls were taken in custody with the two youths. The quartet came here from Toledo, Ore., the authorities said. EARLY ALFALFA CUT DAMPENED BY RAINS Some alfalfa, cut and baled last week in the valley, has been dampened by the current rains, County Agent Robert G. Fowler reports. It was the earliest cut ting of alfalfa in the memory of the county agent. Cutting gen erally starts the last week in May or the first week of June.
