Washington, May 11 U.H) Secretary of War Henry L. Stim- on aid today that 7U,uuu to ou 000 U. S. prisoners of war have been liberated from German prison camps. From D-Day last June 6 through April, Stimson said, the army In Europe, exclusive of the air forces, suffered 512,113 cas ualties. In this total were 88,225 killed, 365,320 wounded, and (8,568, missing and captured. Stimson's estimate of total European casualties Was for all branches of the army. Of all the 536,029 soldiers thus far reported wounded, Stimson said 283,472 have returned to duty. The official lists here (how that 15,379 of the 82,208 soldiers listed as captured have been exchanged or returned to U. S. military control. These lists, however, lag far behind ac tual event in the field. CHIEF WARNS ON FALSE Fire Chief Roy Elliott today warned persons who have been turning in false alarms that the offense carries a severe penalty and local authorities are on the look-out for persons violating the law.
