It will be staged In the high school audi torium, and both performances will start at 8:00 p.m. The plot concerns the turbu lent home life of an "average American family" trying to wel come unexpected guests, giving a coming-home party for the col lege set, and keep an eye on a teen-aged daughter to prevent her from becoming too "June Mad all at the same time. A super-sophisticate enters the home scene and action begins. Under the comedy runs a theme of parent child relationship, which makes the play enjoyable to people of all ages. Casting is as follows: Dr. Wood, Bill Hedrick; Mrs. Wood, Eileen Young;. Penny Wood, Maxine McKinney; Mr. Harris, John Bullock; Chuck Harris, Ferney McKibben; Julie Harris, Phyllis Whitlock; Mervyn Rob erts, Bill Patton; Roger Van Vleck, Charles Jones; Effie, Elaine Walker; Elmer, Bob Boy- er; Mllly Lou, Hortense Jen nings; Shirley Wentworth, Helen Rubenstein; Ralph Wentworth, James Fraley, and Miss Black mer, June Williams. Mrs. Gladys Herron Is coach ing the play. Publicity and man agement are being handled by Elmer Kyle, with Mrs. Delphia Myers as faculty adviser. Leland Mentzer is in charge of construc tion of scenery. Student man agers are Betty Medley and Joan Smith, prompters; Margaret Drysdale, property, and JoAnn Adler, costumes. Reserved seat tickets may be obtained at the high school now and general admission tickets will be sold at both performances. There will be at least two tracks, Narragansett in Rhode Island and Sportsman's Park in Chicago, in operation by this week-end. By the middle of next week two others, Pimlico at Baltimore, and Churchill Downs at Louisville, Ky., will have their belated spring meet ings under-way, preliminary to the running of the two great three-year-old classics, the Ken tucky Derby and the Preakness. Trains Banned Turfmen moved at almost thoroughbred speed themselves in getting schedules arranged after the announcement by War Mobllizer Fred M. Vinson in Washington yesterday that the government ban against opera tion of the tracks had been lift ed. Plans were almost completed for the running of the 71st Ken tucky Derby on June 2 and the Preakness at Baltimore was set tentatively for the following Sat urday, June 9. The third big race for three-year-olds, the Bel mont stakes in New York, will be held either on June 23 or June 30, metropolitan racing of ficials indicated. Arcadia, Cal., May 10 (U.R) Scenic Santa Anita race track, shut down twice in the last three years on the eve of 55 day meet ings, today was reported to have settled for a 35 or 40 day meet ing to make way Tor a summer program at Bing Crosby's Del Mar club. P 3 New York, May 10 (U.R) The conviction of Harvey Stemmer and Henry Rosen for conspiracy and bribing five Brooklyn col lege basketball players, was cit ed today by Judge Louis Gold stein as a warning to "those chiseling and crooked gamblers who infect our proud city that New York is not a safe place to operate." Stemmer and Rosen were found guilty by a jury of eight men and four women after five hours of deliberation last night. The jury recommended leniency for Rosen, who acted as a go between in the deal with the players to "fix" a game with Akron university at Boston on Jan. 31. Stemmer promptly was sen tenced to a year in the penitenti ary and fined $500 with the pro viso that he must serve an extra day for each dollar of the fine he fails to pay. FDR MAY WRITE IN 1954 Cambridge, Mass., (U.R) Presi dent Roosevelt hints that he will be a candidate for the Pulitzer Prize in 1954. In a letter to the secretary of his Harvard class, he wrote: "I have deferred ser ious writing until after the class of 1904 has had Its 50th reunion. I may have more leisure time then." Muth for the postmaster- ship of Empire. OBITUARY CALISTA HURST SMITH Calista Hurst Smith, 62, wife of Roy G. Smith residing on the Old Stage Road near Jackson ville, passed away early this morning following a brief ill ness. A complete obituary with an nouncement of services will ap pear later. Conger-Morris Funer al Parlors are in charge. $1500 LANDIIEM The Jackson county budget for the 1945-1946 tax year will contain a $1,500 Item for the reclassification of land in Jack son county, County Assessor C. A. Myers reports. The program will require several years and the state tax commission has promised to assign a land expert here to assist, with the county paying the major portion of the costs. The project would Include the entire county and is expect ed to adjust several land prob lems that have prevailed for sev eral years. The land will be classified tillable or non-tillable and valuations of improvements set under the plan.
