Your Health and It's Care - By DR. WILLIAM BRADY. M.D. Reader ihould ddr.n Inquiries t8, Dr. William Brady. 265 El Cunlno. Beverly Hilli. Calil. a' WE'RE ONL Familiar item in the news' Jon Q. Fella the w.k. so and so ..tianEoH' last eveninff while at a i u e r wiiu n,a i r i e n as. ur Fonda Public ity stated that Mr. Fella s at tack was due to acute indi eestion. In the same category Is this one, from a reader's let ter: My friend called a doctor Dr. Brady ' who said she has chronic appendictis. Later in a check-up at the hospital no such trouble was found. Still later when she had more pain ' and called the doctor he told her just to take an aspirin or an ice cream soda. He said it was chronic appendicitis and he jMn't need to examine her acaln. that she needed to be built up with tonics so she could have her appendix removed. My own interpretation of Mr. Fella's acute indigestion is that Dr. Fonda Publicity is only fool ing just whom he is fooling 1 cannot say, but I hope it is the reporter or the public, Not Mr. Fella. I'd hate to be in Mr. Fella's place If the attending physician seriously attributes my illness or collapse to "indi gestion." After all, even If your food re mains wholly undigested for hours or days, or remains in the stomach long after it should have passed along into the duod enum, or undergoes prolonged fermentation and so produces the normal or ordinary amount of gas, or excites secretion of more than the ordinary or nor mal amount of acid gastric juice or excessively acid gastric juice, still the very worst effect will be some temporary discomfort. If you have real pain, or any real embarrassment of heart ac tion or breathing or in fact any "attack" or distress severe en ough to call for medical emerg ency relief, you may as welli BUSINESS DIRECTORY Orchestra ftHErJ !e need of musicians for anj occasion, call J Vernoo Marshall Secretary of Medford Musicians Union. V FOOLING realize there is something seri ously wrong and it isn't just upset digestion or something that doesn't "agree" or anything so simple as that. Here I must leave you to worry about it. I can only assure you that any attack" which amounts to more than temporary discomfort is NOT just "indigestion". As for chronic appendicitis, there is still some division of opinion about this rather cryptic diagnosis, some good doctors maintains that it can happen. But if you are asking me, not telling me, I say that I would not fool along with any such notion myself if I were the patient. Too many cases of alleg ed "Chronic appendicitis" have been opened by mistake. One! may have repeated attacks of acute finnenHiritis whathn t, first attack is so -diagnosed or noi, out in my opinion a diagno sis of chronic appendicitis of indefinite or gradual onset, without the history of one or more acute attacks and intervals of comparative freedom from trouble, is always questionable. OF STREETS BEGUN An extensive program of city street improvement was begun Thursday with work starting on the traffic bottleneck at the Oak dale, King and Eighth streets intersections. According to Frank H. Rogers, city superin tendent, the program will be fi nanced by the city s share of gasoline taxes, amounting to $13,000. In certain sections of the city curbs will be installed at th expense of property owners, in collection with this work. Rogers stated that due to the shortage of dust laying oil, the city is providing calcium chlo ride for gravel streets, free of charge. In connection with city Im provements work has been ccr ried on for the past three months on a new 36-tnch tile storm dram on North Riverside avenue. The state highway department has installed a new culvert under the highway. This new work re placed a drainage system, which has been in existence for some time and which has proved en tirely inadequate, Rogers said. The new drain will abate sev eral hundred feet of open ditch.
