Dick Fawcett, on the mound for the Tornado, gave up nine hits to the Cavemen while his teammates were col lecting seven but two Grants Pass errors in the sixth inning gave Medford two runs. T-wo other Tornado runners crossed the plate for the game's biggest nninE. Catcher Bob Watson was Med- ford's big stick, collecting a dou and single out of five trips to plate and batting in three runs besides scoring once. Old Tony Cucclenello kept the Chicago White Sox in a first place tie with the New York Yankees by singling home Dick- shot in the last of the ninth for 3-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. The Yanks slugged Rex Cecil of the Boston Red Sox for five runs after two were out in the first inning and went on to a 7 to 3 win. George Case led Washington to a 7 to 3 victory over Phila delphia. He hit safely five times, drove home three runs and stole one base in handing Connie Mack's team its fifth loss in a row. QUALIFY FOR CORVALLIS EVENT Six Medford high school track men qualified for the state meet at Corvallis May 11 and 12 at the district meet held here yester day. Klamath Falls won the event, scoring 56 V4 points. Med ford was second with 44V4, Ashland was third with 31 1'3, Grants Pass fourth with 14, Rogue River fifth with three and Eagle Point, entering one man for only two events, failed to gain a point. Klamath Falls too seven first places and four second places while Medford took three firsts and five seconds. All first and second place winners will enter the state meet.
