Main Dial 3170 CAUSE OF CANCER Among the laiety, a belief in the hereditary nature is quite strong. But research and investi gation does not produce evidence to uphold such a belief. Like wise, the belief in the contagion of cancer is not supported by evi dence. Even by the transplanta tion of grafting of the cancer tis sue into other subjects, the high est rate of "takes" has been only two to three per cent. In the discussion of cancer, reference is made to the cancerous "sus ceptible individual" or cancer ous "age group." Neither of these stand as a basic cause. The "age group" period is usually considered from age 35 to 70 years, reaching its peak in women at the age of 55 and in men at 65. This is not due to age alone. It is the result of a combination of conditions which have been allowed to gradually develop within the organism over a period of time. Prevent this and cancer will decrease. Webster of Central Point have just received word from their son Lome, an R.C.A.F. pilot, of his recent promotion to flight lieutenant, which is the same rank as captain in the American Air Force. Webster is flying with an R.A.F. squadron stationed in Ceylon. - Returns Lt. Dale R. Sey mour, bombardier instructor at Dyersburg, Tenn., has returned to Tenn., after having spent five days at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Seymour of Central Point. Lt. Seymour is to be assigned .to a crew for over seas duty in the near future. A brother, Pfc. Lyle Seymour, is now in Germany.
