He will also visit his par ents Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. Fry, Murphy. The corporal arrived In the United States April 7. Cadet In Oklahoma Danny Graham, cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point, is now at the Z348th AAF base unit, Chickasha, Okla. for his summer training. Cadet Graham, who entered West Point in July of 1043, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Graham, 108 Cottage street. His older brother, Robert P. Graham, Jr., QMle in the navy, has returned to this country after 18 months duty in South American waters aboard a sub-chaser and is now stationed in Miami, Fla., at Mc Allister Barracks. M on an emergency furlough due to the illness of his father, Dan Bell, 31 Elm street, who is a patient at Community hospital. . On Furlough Sgt. Clifford G. Cave, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cave, 129 Holly street, arrived home last night from the Red River Ordnance depot, Texar kana, Tex. He will leave April 27 to report back to camp. Eayrs Home Sgt William Eayrs is in Medford on a 19 day furlough from Long Beach, Calif., where he is stationed with the army air base in com munications work. Mrs. Ethyl Weed is chairman in charge of the sup per which will be followed by regular meetings of the two groups. ... Officer Home Flight Officer William E. Brooks arrived in Medford Saturday night on emergency leave from Houston, Tex., where he is stationed with the army air corps. Brooks Is visiting his wife, Vera Rae, who was recently released from the hospital, and family at 503 Spencer avenue. He expects to leave Sunday. . . Bardwell Leaving Ralph G Bardwell, 1002 South Oakdale will leave Thursday for Portland where he will attend meetings of the Oregon, Washington, Cali fornia Pear League and Winter Pear Control. Mrs. Bardwell left for Portland last night to visit relatives and .will return with her husband, April 29. . Permits Issued William My ers, 725 Beekman avenue, was issued a building permit at the office of the city superintendent yesterday to erect an additional bedroom at a cost of $200. Mrs. Laura Lawrence, 112 Cottage street, received a permit to build a garage at a cost of $150 after fire destroyed a previous struc ture. , Greenes Horn. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Fred W. Greene have re turned to their home, 1718 East Main street, and the colonel will remain here on leave from the army until May 7 when he will again report for overseas duty. Col. Greene returned to the United States several weeks ago after 34 months in the South Pa cific, took t special course at the command and staff school. Ft. Leavensworth, Kans., gradu ating March 16, and then spent two weeks in Washington, D. C, on special duty. Mrs. Greene accompanied him to the capital. OBITUARY SCOTT INFANT Vernon Larry Scott, Infant son of Mr. and Mrs. James Scott, 1005 E. Main street, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning at the age of six months. Arrangements are in care of the Conger-Morris chapel. ARCHIBALD J. KEHOE Archibald J. Kehoe, 66, passed away at his home, 1009 N. Central Ave., Tuesday after noon after a short illness. He moved to Medford about six months ago from Klamath Falls for his health. Arrangements are In care of the Conger-Morris chapel. . ZENA A. GRISHAM Funeral services for Zena A. Grisham will be held at the Perl Funeral Home on Thursday at 2 p. m., with the Rav. G. O. Baker officiating. BUCK William Thomas Buck, 90, a resident of the Applegate dis trict for the past 23 years, passed away this forenoon. Two children survive, Gerald Buck and Mrs. Tenant Mc Daniel. Also two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be con ducted by the Rev. D E. Mil lard in the Conger-Morris chap el at 10 a. m. Friday. The re mains will then be forwarded to Chico, Calif., for concluding services in the Dayton ceme tery there Saturday afternoon. VINEYARD PURCHASED Guasti, Cel., April 18. (U.R) L. A. Weller, Upland, Cal., Pact fic coast manager of the Garrett Wine Co., Brooklyn, N. Y., to day announced that his organiza tion had completed the purchase of controlling stock in the Italian Vineyard Co., for approximately $5,000,000. ' IRRIGATE FIELDS Run-off waters of the forks of Bear Creek were turned into the ditches of the Medford Irri gation district this week, Man ager J. M. Spencer reports. The water is being used on pasture and alfalfa crops. The spring run-off is just getting started and all water will be used for irrigation. Tests will be made the com ing summer of a method for elimination of moss from Irri gation ditches, Manager Spen cer also reports. Moss is one of the leading ditch nuisances, clogging the water flow in the late summer. Some preliminary tests were made last year. Bartlett and D'AnJou pears have started blooming, Assistant County Agent C. B. Cordy re ports. Peach and apricot blos soming is over. Planting of corn and shear ing of sheep is expected to start before May 1, County Agent Robert G. Fowler states. He es timates that the corn acreage will be larger than last year and also predicts a good wool clip. Packing houses report about 40 cars of apples and pears re main In storage here and it is expected all the pears will be shipped by May 1.
