While more is being learned
about cancer, its treatment is far
from satisfactory. It must be con
sidered as a systemic disease
rather than as a local. Much in
the field of cancer is being done.
Still many different opinions ex
ist as cancer is not a new disease.
It is of great antiquity. It is a
term used by the ancients as de
scriptive of malignant tumors.
The term cancer was given to
these tumors or new growths be
cause the swollen yellowish
veins and lines extending out
from the central mass bore some
resemblance to the crab. Can
cer, as a general term, Is still
used to Include malignant tu
mors. These tumors include two
types of malignant new growths
or neoplasms. They are called
carcinoma and sarcoma.

collection are reminded to turn
the articles In before Tuesday
evening, at which time it is

showing has been made and
quality of the clothing is prac
tically 100 per cent serviceable,
according to Reginald A. Stagg,
general chairman of the drive.
being sponsored ' by Medford
Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The Medford school system.
Kiwanls, Rotary and Lions clubs
have rendered valuable service
in aiding the drive, Stagg said.
E. H. Hedrick, city superintend

ing that city schools have turned
in a total of 6,582 pounds of
clothing. Lincoln school students
turned in 602 pounds, 1,368
pounds from Jackson school, 658
pounds from Roosevelt school
1,042 pounds from Washington
school, 819 pounds gathered by
high school students and z.osd

Again It Is urged that people,
who have not yet ransacked
their closets for old clothing do
so now and either drop their
bundles in the receptacles on the
streets or leave them at Hum
phrey's Motor company, 33

Possums In Attic
Keep Lady Awake
Houston, Tex. (U.R) Mrs. Hil

her attic would play possum in
stead of being playing possums.
It wasn't so bad at first. Just
one possum, apparently.
But then he brought a friend

remarkably quick order. Be

possums using Mrs. Mann's at

Hotel Managers
Dallas, Tex (U.R) Wartime
shortages have created a new
headache for hotels and we
don't mean the shortage of

Henry C. Dickson, president
of the Baker Hotel, says perhaps
the worst shortage is that of
pepper.
"People run off with our pep

wouldn't care too much If they
Just took the pepper, but we're
running out of shakers."
Light-fingered guests, always
a hotel problem, are worse in
war-time, according to Manager
Scott Hardy of the Texas Hotel
Assn.
"They take the sheets and pil
low cases now," he said. "They
even walk out with blankets,
ash trays and the soap.
"Some of them even steal our
matches."
The National Hotel Assn., he
said, tried to work out a deal
under which laundries would re
move towels with hotel identifi

was held not legal.
