IT'S TIME TO :VVLU 1 S,. .v .i Wires received Friday by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Ralph Koozer, Ashland, president of the High way 99 association stated that the War Production Board has approved a project for the com pletion of re-routing of a section of Highway 99 between Grave Creek and Wolf Creek. The wires came from Senator Guy Cordon and also stated that an allocation of $664,000 from existing funds had been made to defray the cost of the project and that the Oregon state high way commission will be author ized to proceed on the project Immediately. Koozer explained that the pro ject was started last year. straightening and Improvement of certain highways having been considered a military emergency and that sections between Med- ford and Roseburg and in the vicinity of Eugene were im proved. The present allocation will continue the improvemeni and will remove a "bottleneck" of winding highway from Wolf Creek to a point just south of Grave Creek. U.R) Tolling bells, memorial ser vices, and a general closing of business in Oregon today marked the observance of Franklin D Roosevelt's funeral. War Industries, however, con tinued at full speed with only a three-minute pause during the funeral period. Downtown stores closed for the day. Food stores were open, except for a two-hour period dur ing the funeral. Banks were open but most of them normally close for Saturday afternoon. Oregon taverns closed for the two hours of the funeral. Port land's theatres were closed till 6 p. m., a general policy through out the state. Mayor Earl Riley of Portland asked all dance halls, amusement places and similar concerns to join theatres in clos ing for the day. Portland held an outdoor mem orial service in Victory Center, with Mayor Riley presiding. Many churches held services dur ing the day. A tanker was launched at Swan Island shipyard with a ceremony constituting the yard's memorial service.
