St. Louis, Mo., April 14 (U.PJ One of the best brother acts In baseball, Ace Pitcher Morton Cooper and his slugging battery mate, Walker, today staged a walkout on the World Champion Cardinals after a front office salary squabble, Should the Coopers stick to their decisions to quit the game for good, they might write finis to the Card's hope for a fourth consecutive pennant and second straight world title. Speaking for both, Mort said they had quit the Cardinals "never to return" and will find Jobs out of the game. The salary quarrel was touched off a few days ago when the brothers learned that Short stop Marty Marion had signed his 1045 contract at salary re portedly higher than they were to receive for this season. Owner Sam Breadon refused to comment on the Coopers' ac tion. He did say, however, that he would not become alarmed over the walkout until they failed to show up In Chicago for next Tuesday's opener. Mort said Breadon denied him a raise this year citing a govern ment ruling which would pro hibit paying him more than the highest salary on the club in 1943 which was $12,000. That Incidentally, was Mort's own paycheck for '43. "Now I hear he made quick arrangement with Marion that boosted Marty's figure over my supposedly top salary," the big hurler said. "We staged our walkout on Mr. Breadon after a conference yesterday. He offered to increase our salaries $300 apiece, but that's not enough." Walker, like Mort, signed for $12,000 and both are understood to be holding out for an addl tlonal $1,800. BAY CITY FACE J San Francisco, April 14 (U.PJ The so-called "fixed fight" busi ness in the San Francisco Buy region Is due for another shuffl ing on Tuesday night when the rand jury continues its probe of questionable results in con nection with the squared circle. While the fans for the last three months have been grumbl ing about the surprise endings to many bouts, and the promoters and boxers were terming it "just one of those things," It now appears that the men who lay the dough on the line at the box office had something about which to growl. The best proof came from one of the boxing clan when Aaron (Little Tiger) Wade, a well known local sepia fighter, offer ed to "guarantee' there would be no more fixed fights in San Francisco if the district attor ney's office would drop the probe. The offer was made to the surprised district attorney, Ed mund (Pat) Brown and Brown thought so much of it that he will call Wade to appear before the grand jury on Tuesday to repeat his offer.
