The facilities pre sently serve Crescent City and Smith River. Central Point Central Point, April 12 A group of friends helped Clifford Cordy celebrate hia seventh birthday Sunday at his home on Beall Lane. There were two beautiful birthday cakes, one for Clifford and one for his sis ter, Lyn, whose birthday was ten days earlier. Attending were: Lorilee Starks, Eddie Head, and David Bigham from Central Point; and Sandy, Charles, and Bobby Degman; and Sharon and Sandra Laing, and Freddie and Karen Jossy, from Medford. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Scott were pleasantly surprised to have as Sunday guests Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Johnson and son, Walter, of Grants Pass, and Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Noel and daughter, Vicki, of Roseburg. Melvin Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Kelly, underwent a sinus operation recently and is getting along very well. Mrs. Hazel Foster, worthy grand matron of the Order of Eastern Star for Oregon, paid her official visit to the Nevita Chapter of Central Point, and to the Alpha Chapter of Ashland at a joint meeting in the temple in Ashland, Saturday evening. All of the officers and many members of the Central Point chapter attended. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hous ton, who have been receiving medical care in California the past few weeks, have returned home. The Carl Hover family visited in Ashland Sunday. Miss Beverly Leach, who has been attending Oregon State College, is at home. The Admiral Scheer was one of Germany's two pocket battle ships of the 10,000-ton class. Tne other was the Luatzow, formerly the Duetschland. . . . The Admiral Scheer was com pleted in 1933. It mounted six guns of 11 Inches. FIRES SWEEP THROUGH CHICAGO LUMBER YARDS Chicago, April 12 (U.R) Fires swept through five Chica go lumber yards today, Injuring at least 10 persons and causing several million dollars in dam age. Millions of feet of lumber were destroyed as i trong winds fanned the flames. Four of the lumber yards oc cupy adjoining lots covering ap proximately four blocks. They are the Red River, White Pine and Lille Lumber companies and the Landis Mills. Germany Puts Boys On Defense Front London, April 12 (U.R) A German sergeant, a veteran of Russia, Crete, North Africa Sicily and Italy, surrendered to a correspondent for the London Star on the second army front, it was disclosed today1.
