USNR, of Estes Park, Colo., has completed an 18-month tour of overseas duty with the Naval Air Transport Service Command, Pacific Wing, and Is returning tc the United States for leave and duty with a NATS squadron based on the West Coast. Canfield was stationed at NATS Pacific ground units In Hawaii, the Fiji Islands, New Guinea, and New Caledonia. He was an air trans port officer and offer-in-charge of units which provided ground facilities for NATS planes de livering the Navy's high prior ity passengers, cargo, and mail across nearly 30,000 miles of transpacific routes. Lieut. Canfield was superin tendent of the Rocky Mountain National Park before entering the Navy in March, 1943. He was superintendent of Crater Lake National Park from 1934 to August, 1937 with headquar ters in Medford, Ore, Lieut. Canfield and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Norton Canfield, make their home In the Hocky Mountain National Park, LT. BOTH M. REED Great Lakes, III. Medford, Oregon has been awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service In actual combat while fighting with the Third Infantry Division in Italy. Eagle Point Esgla Point, March 22 Don ald Ashpole of Don's Service on Crater Lake highway, north of Eagle Point, left Wednesday to report for training at Camp Lewis, Wash. Ha sold the stock and leased tha store buildings to Mr, and Mrs, Harold "Cooney" Brlggs who have taken posses' ston. Henry Holman will run tha garage. ' Cooney had been man ager' of the Eagle Point Lumbar company tha part two years. Tha new manager is James Par ker, who used to work for Don in tha store. Mr. and Mrs, Orvil Henderson were happily surprised Sunday morning when Mr. and Mrs Wayne Wymore, and two little daughters, Dae Sharon and Judy Ann, and two friends arrived, on their way from Portland to Los Angeles, where Wayne is to ap pear for induction into the army March 28. Ha has been employed In the Southern Pacific railroad yards at Portland for several months. Mrs. Wymote, nee Betty Jeanne Gipson, is the grand daughter of Mrs. Henderson and attended high school here before her marriage. They left soon aft er noon on their way south.
