WHAT GOES WITH ALL This talk is for boys and girls with oily skin, blackheads and pimples acne, as we doctors call It, dui do.i't let our penchant (or Greek or Latin medical terms worry you and don't let my studied use of t h e French term mislead y o u 1 Just thumbed through my frazzled Webs- Or Brady . ter both. of which are always right at my elbow to find a synonym for fondness and so I stumbled upon penchant (pronounced pan-shan. both a's as in arm). As I explained in an earlier talk about pimples, this condi tion excessive oilness of skin, blackheads and pimples is vir tually physiological or normal in the 'teens, being the manifesta tion of the fast development of the hair-follicles and sebaceous glands (glands secreting sebum, kin oil) that occurs in adoles 'ence. I admit this may not ac count for the fact that a minor ity of boys and girls of teen age may nave little or no acne al though they are growing and de veloping as rapidly as the ma jority But, this is my story and I'm stuck with it it Is not my invention,' though, for you will find the idea in numerous au thoritative works on' derma tology. ; , ,. 1 The point I want boya and girls' to understand clearly is that a reasonable amount of blackheads and pimples is nor mal and no one but a quack or an ignoramus claims or Implies that such adolescent acne has any significance concerning pur ity, of the blood or of the morals. . I said the other day hat al though numerous physicians and authors of, textbooks on diseases of the skin mention chocolate mong the many causes or con tributing causes of acne (exces sive oiliness of skin, blackheads and Dimples), it Is not the choco late itself, in my opinion,- but rather the excessive consump tion of refined sugar and refined white flour, in the various Items flavored or coated with choco late, that should be held respon sible for acne In many cases And again. It Is not that refined white sugar and refined white flour and the highly nourishing (high caloric) breadstuffs, cakes, pastries, confections, fountain beverages. Ice cream and the like made largely of refined white sugar or syrup and refined white flour, are harmful. They are perfectly good fuel food, of course. But rather it Is the fact that these delectable, cheap, plentiful, always available and always so easy to eat or drink even when you are not at all hungry carbohydrates quickly satisfy the body's energy re quirement so that there is little appetite left for the foods that contain' minerals and vitamins which are essential for good metabolism, vlte, health, vigor, functional efficiency. Well, there It Is,. In the next talk on this subject I'll have more to say about pap, pop and pimples. lief At Last For Your Cough Oreomulsion relieves promptly be cause It goes right to the seat of thi trouble to help loosen and expe Eerm laden phlegm, and aid naturx J soothe and heal raw, tender, in rlamed bronchial mucous mem oranea.
