EIGHT MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Your Health and Its Care By DR. WII MAN BRADY M. D. Reader should addreie Inquiries toi Dr. William Brady 26S El Camlne Beverly Hills Calii. TONSIL DI Of all these newer methods over which I have had so many and such enjoyable controver sies with the self. - constitut ed "spokes men," "lead ers" or ''prom i n e n t mem fa e r s of the medical pro fession, the diathermy or electro coagu lation treat ment 'of en larged and in fected tonsils Dr Brady has made the lowest progress. There are two reasons for thaat, 1 believe. First, the telling argument of the old fossils In the nose and throat field that the diathermy n.ethod doesn't get all of the tonsil but leaves some tonsil tissue in the throat. That Is true, but the "specialists" or the "surgeons" who use it to persuade the unwary patient to submit to the major operation (tonsillectomy) are either Ignor ant of the pathology of the trou ble or dishonest or both. ' Ex cept in rare cases of malignancy there is no good reason why we should even attempt to remove every bit of tonsil from the throat. Doctors who use this ar gument . betray their quackish character pretend to know what of course they, do not know. ' The other reason why tonsil diathermy has not yet super seded the atrocious guillotine and snare operation Is that it requires considerably more skill than tonsillectomy does, not only technical skill but skill and patience in managing pa tients, and not every doctor has such ability. Tedious Is the word for tonsil diathermy work te dious for the doctor at any rate. And so your busy "specialist" prefers to run you Into the hos pital, go fishing with his snicker snee, take -out everything that gets caught in the snare (includ ing portions of throat muscle Rogue River; .' If you do have serious hemorrhage or subse quent lung abscess or something those are the breaks, brother. After all, I am not quite unique, I do know or know of a reasonable number of doctors who not only use the methods I recommend but have much the same views as I have. But If or when I recommend such a doc tor to a correspondent, the cor respondent must be satisfied with the mere mention of the doctor s name. In no instance shall I name any doctor as one who shares my views. Too many good doctors do not. . I .
