The class meets Thursdays in the church office at 4:10 p. m. Discharged Honorably dis charged from the navy this week was Charles Alfred Bucher, for merly a yeoman second class. Bucher served with the navy in the southwest Pacific. He has one son in the navy who has served overseas-also. Before go ing' into the service Bucher was employed at the California Ore gon Power Co. Tin Drva Total amount of tin collected in the first two days of the city tin drive is 12, 878 pounds, according to a re port from the office of the su perintendent of city schools to day. Permits W. M. King, 806 South Fir street, and J. E. Cox, 107 Portland avenue, received permits yesterday from the city superintendent's office to re model residences at an approx imate cost of $200 each. Lost At U. S. O. A black wallet belonging to Beverly Watson, junior hostess at the Riverside U. S. O., which was reported lost Tuesday, was found this morning with $70 missing. Miss Watson s identi fication and personal papers were left, along with a $5 per sonal check. Promoted Roger Henselman, stationed in Washington, D. C. with the army intelligence de partment dealing with the Jap anese, has been promoted to cap tain. This is the second promo tion given the young man since he completed training slightly more than a year ago. He is the son of Mrs. Mark Uoldy, Berk eley Way. Osteopaths Meet Dr. George S. Jennings of Medford delivered a paper on penicillin at the meeting of the Southern Oregon Osteopathic society held Monday evening at the home of Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Howard, 1507 West Main street. Members ;. from Grants Pass, Medford and Ash land were in attendance1 and the hosts served refreshments fol lowing the program. In Rest Home Flight Officer Merton LeRoy of Medford is now in a rest home in England ac cording to word received by his mother, .Mrs. Jack Crump, 823 East Ninth street. Officer LeRoy was forced to bail out of the B-17 for which he had been serv ing as navigator when the plane was shot down over Belgium about three weeks ago, he wrote. The young man's brother, Lt. Maiden LeRoy, fighter pilot,, re cently arrived at a south Pacific base for overseas duty. Mrs. Mai den LeRoy is making her home in Medford with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Race Partiality Is i Given As Cause of Manpower Shortage Washington, March 14-loi.R) A, Philip Randolph, president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, told the Senate Labor and Education committee today that the manpower short age would vanish if employers and labor unions would accept workers without regard to race or color. He and other witnesses testi fying on a bill to create a per manent fair employment prac tices committee said thousands of negroes are being denied jobs at a time when congress is considering a bill of draft man power. Clark Foreman, New York, president of the southern con ference on human welfare, told the committee only eight per cent of the negroes in Dallas, Tex., are employed In war in dustry, although 17 per cent of the city's population are ne groes. DeBerry, who operates a cabinet shop at 522 Crater Lake avenue, recently brought a map of the Rhine River in Germany to the Mail Tribune office which he had sent to his sister during World War I. DeBerry, who served with the 54th Pioneer In fantry, is exceptionally inter ested in the present battle along the Rhine River since he served near Coblenz during the first World War. DeBerry said his outfit first hit the Hindenberg line Sept. 26 1917, and was in continuous ac tion and in the army of occupa tion until May 24, 1919.
