J 1 1 I LOCAL and Flu Fir Local firemen were called to the Watson home at 31 Elm street last night to extinguish a flue fire. The fire caused no damage. Remodel Permit Permit was issued to Cliff Gass, 1518 West Main street, at the city super intendent's office today for the purpose of remodeling his resi dence at the approximate cost of S75. Sailor Home Harold A. Lee. husband of Marie Lee, Jackson ville. Is home this week after serving 16 months overseas. Lee is on a 15-day emergency leave to Jacksonville now, but plans to return later on regular leave. Promoted Bill' Wall, serving on a supply ship in the Pacific in the Philippine area, has been promoted to boatswain's mate second class. Wall has been in the navy two years. He Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Wall, Ross Lane, Veteran Horn Norman Wal lace Vance, S 1c, has returned home after seeing action In the Pacific, having been on sea duty for 18 months. He Is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Vance. 518 Beatty street, and ' will be In Medford 16 days, On Furlough Pvt. Roger Newton, son of Mr. and Mrs. D F. Newton, 5l3 Liberty street returned home March 5 from the University of Utah where he has been under A.C E.R. train lng. Newton will report to Fort Lewis on March It). He graduat ed with the class of '44 from Medford high school. ' . Visiting Mrs. Susan Graham and Mrs. Herbert Jones are in Medford for a month visiting Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Antony, at 2303 Hillcrest road. Mrs. Graham. Mrs. Antony's mother and Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Antony's sister, are from St. Louis, Missouri, and may make their home in this city. Leaves Second Lt. Richard Frederick left Mecfford Tuesday to return to Selman Field, Mon roe, La., after spending a week here with his mother, Mrs Madge Frederick, 809 South Peach, street. Lt. Frederick was recently commissioned at Sel man Field after completing train ing as an aerial navigator. Teachers to Meat Intermedi ate teachers of Jackson county will meet at the courthouse au ditorium Saturday at 10 a. m. Guest speaker for the meeting will be Miss Marian Ady of the Southern Oregon College of Edu cation whose subject will be art. Teachers are asked to note that the meeting has been set half -Ji hour earlier than usual. - Pvt. Beer Horn Pvt. Ernest W. Beer is home from Camp Roberts, Calif., and is visiting his wife and son al the family home, 303 Beatty street. He will be in Medford about 10 days. Pvt. Beer has been in the serv ice seven months and this is his first visit home. Before entering the service Pvt. Beer was an employee of Beck's Bakery, Overseas Starting his second tour of duty overseas, Marmic E. Olson, warrant officer in the Seabees, left last month for an assignment with the "Fighting Fortieth" battalion in the south Pacific. Olson previously spent 21 months overseas with the 55th battalion. He returned to this country last fall and after spend tag the month of October In Med ford went to Camp Parks in California for officers' training Mrs. Olson, who resides at 111 Newtown, spent December and January in California with her husband and returned here early in February. Doctors Renew Hospital Lease Ashland, March 8 Dr. R. E. Poston and Dr. C. . A. Haines have renewed their lease on the Community hospital for a five year period, Dr. Poston said to day. Mr. and Mrs. George Smith will remain as managers under terms of the agreement. Dr. Poston said the lease in cludes the medical profession of Ashland and any bona-fide M.D. s who might open practice here during that time may be includ ed In the lease. Guy I. Rowe, commanding general of the depot. The stove Is designed in such a manner as to be used by small units, such as anti-aircraft de tachments of isolated batteries away from their main. body.
