    EGYPT DECLARES
PREMIER KILLED
Cairo, Teb. 24 (U.R) While
parliament was declaring war on
Germany and Japan today, a
young extremist shot and killed
Premier Dr. Ahmed Maher
Pasha.
Maher had Just completed his
address to an extraordinary ses
sion of the chamber of deputies
when he was shot down.
He was on his way from the
chamber to the senate. As he
crossed the intervening lawn, a
young man rose from hiding in
. the garden and fired at him with
a revolver. Four bullets struck
Maher and one pierced his heart.
He died instantly.
The youth was caught and al
most lynched.

the assailant as other than a
"young extremist.")

Relatives of C. H. Isaac, for

formed last week of his death in
Oceanside, Calif. Funeral serv
ices are to be held this afternoon
at four o'clock In Oceanside. Mr.
Isaac was 52 yean of age.
The deceased lived in Med
ford for many years, being part
owner of the Palmer Music
House and later an employee ot

company. Survivors are his wife,
Alice Palmer Isaac; two sons,
Burton, now at Wilmingham,
N. C awaiting overseas assign
ment; Stephen, serving with the
army in England, a brother, Earl
Isaac of Klamath Falls and sev
eral sisters in California.
Mrs. Isaac's parent. Mr. and
Mrs. B. J. Palmer, reside at 3 IS

India bases blasted the dock area
of Singapore today with, "good
results" and left black columns
of smoke billowing 20,000 feet
over the port, a 20th Air Force
communique announced.
Only weak fighter opposition
was encountered during the raid

Officer Dick Baize said the
car was pushed 18 feet from the
point of impact and badly dam
aged. The driver, alone in the
