after an extended stay in Ro
chester, Minn., and In Iowa. Miss
Swearingen was a patient for
several months at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester and is re
ported much improved in health.
Miss Coffeen was with Miss
Swearingen In Rochester for a
time and also visited relatives
in Iowa.

ALTA NAYLOR
Alts Naylor, a pioneer resi
dent of Medford, having been
born here Nov. 23, 1861, passed
away at her home, 302 S. Grape
street, Monday afternoon.
She was an expert seamstress
and was alteration lady for many
years for two of the largest
ladies' ready to wear firms in
San Francisco and Seattle. She
has been retired for the past
seven years.
Survivors Include one niece.
Mrs. Abbie Bailey. Merrill. Ore,
and a brother-in-law, Gordon
Sschermerhorn, Medford, and a
great niece, Arlene Brown.
Funeral services will be con
ducted from the Perl Funeral
Home Saturday at 2 p. m.. the
Rev. Louis C. Kirby, pastor of
the First Methodist church, of-

Mary Elizabeth Stansbie, a
resident of southern Oregon for
the past 40 years, her home be
ing at Fifth and Laurel Streets,
in Central Point, passed away
at a local hospital Tuesday morn
ing. Mrs. Stansbie was born at
Springfield, 111., April 23, 1856.
She was active until the last and
took a keen Interest in affairs
and especially her numerous
friends. Her husband, Robert
Stansbie passed away Jan. 1.
1920.
She is survived by one sister-in-law.

nature ot Gov. Earl Snell after
passage by the state legislature.
Among them were measures
which would change the dead
line for filing of eandidacies to
84 days before election (instead
of the present 45 enabling sol
dier absentees to vote more
easily); make chickens livestock
in the legal meaning of the word
to protect them from the depre
dations of dogs; raise the salary
of the assistant secretary of state
from $4200 to $4800, and cor
rect several minor defects in ex
isting laws.- .
