LOCAL and PERSONAL Ta Klamath Falli John Freeman, employed at the Med ford airport for the past 16 months, will take up new duties today at the Naval Air Sta tion near Klamath Falls in civil service truck maintenance. Ob Committee Miss Betty Mack, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.' James Mack, 45 Barneburg Road, has been appointed chair man of the posters' committee for the traditional Heart Hop, traveling dance sponsored by the University of Oregon Y. W. C. A., to celebrate Valentine's Day, a news release from the university states. e ' Promoted Pfc. William R. Marshall, stationed at the Great Bend army air field in Kansas, has been promoted to the grade of corporal. Cpl. Marshall, who engaged in farming before en tering the army in August of 1940, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Marshall of Browns boro. His wife is the former Vivian N. DeVerng. Here From Portland Mf. and Mrs. Earl Updike of Portland are in the county as the guest of relatives. They will visit Mrs. Updike's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Nichols of Locust street, Mrs. Updike's sister, Mrs. Bob Harnlsh, Griffin Creek road, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nichols, who live near Central Point Accident An automobile ac cident Saturday night on North Riverside just south of Maple street involved cars driven by Dan Favor, Eugene, and Mrs. James Wicker, Route 3, box 212, Medford, an accident report on file today' stated. The Favor vehicle was traveling the wrong way on Riverside, proceeding south, he said in his report, causing about $100 damage to his car. Amount of damage if ny ta the Wicker car was not reported. . Vtgt Reservations Those planning to attend the annual banquet of the Jackson County Lincoln club tomorrow evening at the Hotel Holland should make reservations not later than this evening, according to Mrs. G. Q. D'Albini, president of the club. Mrs. D'Albini states that since space at the hotel is lim ited, and careful planning must be done In order to accommo date the banquet, reservations are necessary. Wills, 21, Rogue River, has been promoted from corporal to ser geant, according to an announce ment from an Eighth B-17 base in England. A member of the 85th bombardment group, . the sergeant is a ball turret gunner on a Fortress. Sgt. Wills' Fort ress group led the first Ameri can bombing attack on targets in Berlin, the release states, and was cited by the president for outstanding bombing assaults on railroad yards at Munster, Ger many, in October of 1943. A part of the distinguished third air division, the group also shared, in a presidential cita tion given the entire division for its historic England-Africa shuttle bombing of a plant at Regensburg, Germany, in Au gust of 1943. Fined Hazel CaWn, 3S, hem in Colorado was fined $10 Sat urday for being drunk in a pub lie place. Lasker Leeland Keith ly, 45, was jailed Sunday on the same charge while Carl E. Nel son, 67, of Michigan posted $10 bail for the same offense yester day after being jailed earlier. Tin Drive Planned E. H. Hedrick announced plans for a city and county wide tin drive early in March are being made by the schools and other cooper ating groups and has urged housewives to start saving all their tin cans for a general col lection. .School children will participate in the drive as they have on other war drives, he declared. Weekend Visitors Sgt. Fred Beck and First. Lt. Austin Mur ray, both Medford men and crew members on the same AAF ship, arrived by air in Medford Friday night for a few days leave. They are stationed at Yuma, Ariz. Beck is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Beck, Old Stage road, and Murray' mother, Mrs. I. D. Murray, lives at 1033 West 11th street. Both learned to fly here before entering the service under instruction of Tommy Culbertson. La Murle B. Witt, a daughter of the Michael Becks, now a technician fifth grade in the Wac stationed at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, returned o her post several days ago after a furlough here. Her husband, 2nd Lt. Richard H. Witt, AAF, also of Medford, is now in the Netherlands East In dies after three years overseas ut New Guinea and other the aters. In England Second Lt Er nest J. Pinkham of Central Point has arrived at an air force sta tion in England and has re ceived the orientation course de signed to help the servicemen adjust themselves to life in a combat zone, a news story from the station reports. Before en tering the service Lt. Pinkham was employed as a clerk at Emil's market in Medford. He is the son of Mrs. Alice M. Pink ham, Central Point. Returns From Navy Arnold E. Semm who was honorably discharged from U.S. Naval Training Center, San Diego, California, returned to his home at route 2, box 449, Med ford late last week. He came here from Osage, Iowa and has a wife and four children here He is employed by F. R. Fair- weather as a carpenter, having worked in the same position prior to his induction into the armed services. Announce Program A pro gram of visual education will be given by the Mariners' class of the First Christian church in Fellowship hall Wednesday of this week at 7:30 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley McDon- ough and daughters visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Mc Dowell and family at McLeod, Feb. 4. Sams Valley Ladies' club met at the home of Rose Elian Dug gan Feb. 1. It, was an all day meeting with a covered dish luncheon. The day was soent setting a quilt together. Date of the Valentine party has been changed from Feb. 14 to Feb. 16. The party is for the members and their families and each member is asked to bring a cake. Mem bers who took their name off the roll the first of the year are invited to attend. Next club meeting will be March 1 at the home of Rosle Abbott. Election of officers will be held. Mr. and Mrs. George Loftin spent Feb. 4 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Lundy and Billy Black. Billy leaves this week to enter service. He attended the Sams Valley High when the Lun dy's lived in Beagle. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schulz Mrs. Wesley McDonough and Mr. and Mrs. George Loftin spent Monday in Medford attend ing the 4-H meeting in the Court House. They are all 4-H workers in this community. Mrs. Stanley Straus and baby son, Jack, arrived home the lat ter part of January. Mrs. Straus has been in Redmond, Calif., for the past few months near her husband, who Is in the army and has just left the states for over seas duty. Mr. Bertha Holtz and. Mrs. John Hall of Central Point spent a couple of days the first of the week at Mrs. Holtz farm here. Mrs. Holtz is making her home at the Halls at present to be near medical aid.
