Adults Make Up Two-thirds Of Voting Population New York ' (U.R) Almost two-thtrds of the people of the United States are 21 years old or older, an indication of the stead ily increasing proportion of the population, of voting age, ac cording to a recent statistical re port. In 1920,- when women 'first voted, about 58 per cent of the population could vote and a slightly larger proportion of men than women were in the voting age group. Now, however, the Metropolitan Life Insurance statisticians say, the women have a slight edge in numbers. They attribute the increased proportion of adults in the popu lation to a long-term downward trend of the birth rate, the in crease in the average length of life and sharp curtailment of Im migration in recent decades. Merrick's and Dreamland Dancesl IhtJtslll . T-Saain THi HOT STOVE LEAGUE Keeping warm in Belgium is a job in itself tfaced by extreme, cold in Ardennes sector, wire crew of U. S. ENROLLMENTS FOR SECOND SEMESTER SHOW GAINS, DROP Enrollments in Medford schools for the second semester compiled by the office of the school superintendent were up 18 per cent in elementary schools, 17 per cent in the Jun ior High school and down four per cent in the High school, it was revealed in a report from the school superintendent's of- five today. , j E. H. Hedrick declared that more children are enrolled in city schools now than at any time during the peak of army activities at Camp White. He attributed the gain partially to the influx of essential workers and their families to this area. The decrease in High School enrollments can be attributed almost entirely to the number of enlistments into the navy or Other branches of the service, migration to necessary war jobs, Hedrick declared. , Elementary schools as a whole enrolled 1,392 students in Feb ruary this year against 1,197 for the corresponding period In 1944. A report by schools gives Jackson, 317; Lincoln, 288; Roosevelt, 344 and Washington, 445 students for February, 1945. The Junior High school now has 678 students, against an en rollment of 577 a year ago. Medford High school listed 551 students this semester, a de crease from 574 recorded for February. '44.
