President Gulley spoke at the Friends church in the morning and in the afternoon at the Brethren church. "Military conscription has not demonstrated that it guar antees peace among nations," the speaker said. "On the con trary, such practice has led na tions into dictatorship and an aggressive military program." Refuting other arguments by those who propose universal military conscription in peace times, President Gulley said that it would not improve the health of the nation's youth and that any proposed national health program should be out side military control. Speaking on the matter of dis cipline, the speaker said that real discipline must be self-imposed and that this nation needs more than mere obedience to commands. He further pointed out that labor leaders and edu cators as well as religious lead ers oppose universal conscrip tion. The speaker closed by advo cating that instead of depending upon military might we culti vate mutual understanding with other nations by such practical means as exchange of college students on a large scale, devel opment of the right type of for eign missions and that we de velop the attitude of sharing our natural resources with those in need rather than seeking our own national advantage. We should spend millions on pro moting real peace measures in stead of billions on military training, the president concluded. John Moffat Gets Infantryman Badge. Marquess was unable to pay his fine and was committed to the county jail, Justice W. P. Tucker states. , If he serves out the entire fine, he will be in jail 45 days, the justice said.
